Amazon.co.uk Review
Imagine if you could marry the adventure and acrobatics of the Tomb Raider games to the martial-arts action found in pure fighting games like Tekken. If you have a clear picture of what that would be like, you've got a handle on Oni from Bungie Studios. It's a third-person-perspective action-adventure fighting game, but with a distinct Japanese animation flavour.

The story concerns the TCTF (Technology Crimes Task Force) police sometime in the future. Konoko is an operative with a cybernetic uplink to a little girl android named Shintama. She becomes embroiled in the hunt for a criminal named Muro and his hulking bodyguard, and her battles with his thugs rage through office buildings, chemical plants, an airport and even the TCTF headquarters itself.

It's a simplistic story: high on the melodrama, but perfectly in keeping with its anime intent. Like the story, the action serves that goal as well. Oversized rifles, bizarre rocket launchers, plasma cannons and freeze guns make up the arsenal and, should those run out of ammo or get knocked from one's hand, fists and feet complete the set. Konoko can execute a multitude of fairly easy-to-perform flips, combos and devastating punches and kicks. Combat is fierce and always challenging, yet never dull. The animation is flawless and fun to watch, while never being overly gory or tasteless. Think of the jaw-dropping combat in The Matrix and you've got a taste of Oni's action.

Oni a refreshing kung-fu alternative to the typical run-and-gun action gaming fare. And you will find Konoko herself a fascinating protagonist to boot (pun intended). --Andrew S. Bub

1 out of 5 stars Mate- what u tryin   January 16, 2006

This game seems to have evolved from a fine piece of crap. I seriously disagree with some other people(retards if you ask me)who reviewed this 4/5 star game cos it's bullshit!!!!! You must be insane to have played this game and then get it cos u can't move, it's really slow, it keeps crashing, it keeps farting(jokes) and the graphics are butt ugly- espescially oni who resembles a Tard. The price of the game is fairly low- it may be tempting to get this game- (again mate, u are A SPAZ)
Bad vALUE, cos it's a ridiculous game in every fricking aspect god dammit!!!!!! Back to my heading- WHAT YOU TRYIN

3 out of 5 stars A good game, but gets tedious.   January 10, 2002

Oni is a decent game, plenty of fighting and exploring action. There are a good variety of enemys and lots of fighting moves Konoko can perform. There are even a couple of puzzles thrown in. However the repetitive action of "find screen, unlock door, fight baddies, go through door, repeat" soon gets boring and predictable, and could put you off. For fans of the genre, its a pretty good addition to your collection, and could keep you occupied for a couple of weeks. For those who aren't fans, it might be worth a rental at least.

2 out of 5 stars borring!   January 8, 2002

Firstly this games controls are a problem, you do get used to using the two analogue sticks but they are still annoying. The fire buttons punch and kick are in the wrong place and so are the jump buttons at the L's and R's. I have got really used to using X as the fire button on other games.

secondly the game play isn't smooth and isn't
fast and action packed. It gets so borring!finding nobody to shoot and just finding a computer to open each door.
Thirdly when you start the training its so easy. really borring! and takes a century. Eventually you get to the first level ok its time to go and to kill a thew bad guys and open doors. Its easier to kill the men by kicking and punching them than shooting them.

absolutely borring!

4 out of 5 stars Great Action Not So Great Storyline....   January 7, 2002

OK. This game is quite possibly one of the most involving games I have played in a while.
Although the storyline isn't up to much( a particulary bad ending) the gameplay is brilliant!

It takes more skill to master this game than anything else.... this is due to the fact that the controls involve you using the right analog stick in conjunction with the directional buttons(or left analog stick). But once you are over that little thing you will have hours of frustration thinking 'Well maybe if I had done this that way...' The variety of weapons is also a bonus for this game.....it's a laugh watching all those missiles flying at the enemy.
I would reccomend the game to anyone that like a good bit of action but if you like your games to have a good storyline(think Metal Gear Solid) this might not be the game for you.

4 out of 5 stars oni the best will do   January 7, 2002
This is an excellent fast paced game. With clear instuctions from the main lady you will learn new moves to take your opponents by suprise! A combination of hand to hand combat techniques backed up with futuristic weaponry ensure an action packed fast moving experience not to be missed! Not for the slow of hand!!
