3 out of 5 stars Good Handling Nice Colour and Shape But Breaks Irritatingly Easily   November 24, 2007
The Xbox controller this size is very good size. Its comfortable, its got a good rumble pack and its the best Controller for Xbox except perhaps the Wireless version. The colours and design on this COntroller is also very nice, but the Controller breaks easily. I have 4 Xbox controllers. 1 came with my Xbox and it now has the problem that the Controller things that im pressing the Right Trigger all the time. An annoying problem for games like Halo, Shooting everything accidentely. The other controller thinks im moving the right Joystick thing to the right slightly all the time (not too bad) the other one is fine actually and the last one doesnt work at all really. It keeps on saying (Please Re-Insert Controller and Press Start) ALL THE TIME. Annoying...

2 out of 5 stars Not a patch on the original controller!!!!   May 16, 2007

Well, I've been using the original large controller since 2002. Admitadely, my second one has just started to die on me (right controller won't turn left, and the cable is starting to wear), but having spent time on this small cheap looking effort....I'd prefer to play halo etc, albeit with a slow left turn, with the original.
I have large hands, but that's not the real source of my gripe. What I really can't stand about this controller is the small joysticks, which have an 'all or nothing' sensitivity about them. With the original, you have far greater control over your inputs. From precise movements looking through a snipers scope on battlefield 2, to having a smooth and laser like ability to follow a target in your crosshairs in halo games and brothers in arms.
With this controller it's practically impossible to make precise movements in the heat of a game. Plus the overall construction looks far more flimsy.
The final kick in the teeth is the weak vibration motors that lack the instantaneous and intense vibrations of the original. The only improvements I can think of are the lower profile buttons, but that's only a benefit on the main 4, as the black and white buttons are poorly placed and hard to locate due to their low profile whilst mid play.

This controller is only suitable for small handed gamers who have an imprecise gameplaying style. For the gamer who likes to be able to play with finesse, and become more integrated with your xbox, try and get an original.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Controller.   July 6, 2005

This controller is easily worth 5 out of 5 because of the ease of use it. i have recently bought a xbox of amazon and this controller was so good i could use it straight away.

It is the right size for anyone and is very enjoyable to use.
If your going to buy a xbox controller get this one.

4 out of 5 stars A welcome change to the original controller   April 11, 2005

As someone with fairly sizeable hands, I had no real issues with the original XBOX controller. It worked fine for me. However, after having bought the S as a second controller, it's no wonder that it's now the controller shipped with the console.

Firstly, size. It's obviously great for anyone with smaller hands, but even those with bigger hands will like it - unlike the old controller, your hands don't ache after a couple of hours gaming, and the positioning of the joysticks just feels totally right. The ABXY buttons are actually better - they're circular, rather than elliptical, and have a smooth top rather than the ridge of the original, meaning more comfort. The build quality is actually better - the controller S has a solid feel, and sits perfectly in the hand.

The cable is also slightly thicker, adding to the quality feel of the product. One slight gripe - the black and white buttons sometimes feel a bit too embedded in the controller, but apart from that it's fantastic.

4 out of 5 stars The premium controller for the Xbox   February 3, 2005

I don't know what was going on at Microsoft A&R but it must have been a moment of sheer lunacy that led to the creation of a joypad that could only be wielded by people with 12 inch fists.

The Japanese market found themselves with another reason why an Xbox wasn't really an essential purchase since they couldn't get their mitts round them. Luckily Microsoft came up with Controller S version.

Its still the biggest of the controllers when you look at the official GameCube and PS2 controllers but its a hell of alot better than the original.

Where it suceeds over its competitors is the superior control that it offers for FPS games and the fact that you plug your Live headset in through it. The analogue joysticks are nice and firm to help get that greater degree of accuracy, however, I have noticed in particularly hectic moments in Halo that its a bit too easy to jam your hand on the black and white buttons by accident. Also I tended to end up with crampy hands after a while. Still not quite up with the PS2 controller as far as comfort goes.

One neat feature is the safety release device built into the cable... ensuring that if a rampant child happens to trip over the wire, it disconnects from the machine with ease rather than bringing all 7 tonnes of the Xbox down on its head.

A good controller that still needs to work out where to stick the black/white buttons. Essential to everyone who gets the machine, lose the clunky original controller immediately.
