Game developed in a hurry? March 26, 2008 Ok, this was a long-awaited game since the release of Heroes of Might and Magic IV (HOMM IV) which was an awesome, entertaining game to play.
It appears HOMM V has been developed to suit a 3D environment, which is quite attractive. Nevertheless, this has not worked out too well due to the resources not being managed well by the programming of the game.
I like big maps and scenarios that take absolute ages to finish. Well, it takes ages for each player to take their turn no matter what machine you have. This is really bad. After 5 turns you understand you do not have the time to waste on this.
Furthermore, the storyline would be ok if there were no voices (atrocious) but you'd get lost in the constant misspelling of words in the writing, let alone the few words that are simply skipped.
Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed with HOMM V because it shows it has not had the adequate investment of time in it to get a good review. I have not had very little fun playing it, and I only insisted on playing it a bit more (with auto battle) because I love the series of this game. If I was someone who had never played HOMM before I would never go near it again (and would give it 1 or 2 stars). Quite a shame really.
5/10. Stick to HOMM IV or III.
A bit like crack-- horribly made yet so addictive January 5, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love the HOMM series, and this game would be a wonderfully welcome addition if it actually worked properly. My PC is more than capable of handling other 3D games and utilities (even AW Maya), yet it grinds to a crawl when dealing with HOMM V's clunky rendering engine.
It's a shame-- even with a single move for one character taking 5 minutes to finish due to miserable lag (not to even mention 30-40 minutes to get through a single cut scene), the game is great fun. The characters are brilliantly realised, the plots are fun.
If only the programmers had been competent enough to know how to program a 3D rendering engine, this game would easily have been one of the best games of the year.
Back to its roots... October 17, 2007 I haven't enjoyed Heroes of Might and Magic so much since number 3 came out... The graphics is fantastic, the storyline engrossing, the creatures detailed, but the most annoying point about it is the camera focusing... sometimes if you want to get your character to pick up a resource/treasure/artifact, and the view is obscured by a wall or other vertical object, you have to move the screen round and down...It is a bit fiddly and annoying at time... But to be honest, it is a thoroughly good game, and the only game I am looking forward to playing more is World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade expansion...Well done Ubisoft!! I have already ordered Tribes of the East..

In my opinion, Homm5 is one of the best games to be released this year, no other game has consumed so much of my time (except maybe counter strike:source) as this truly addictive game.
A few major glitches are a big problem (Unable to complete one mission if you dont do it correctly, slightly laggy camera if you move it into the wrong position) that let the game down a lot. However, if, like me you enjoyed the first 3 incarnations of the game this is a vast improvement upon them with a great new 3d camera and sumptuous visuals. Ive spent around 20 - 30 hours already on the game and im only half way through, not including the many multiplayer missions ive played against my brother. However, two big problems which will be hopefully sorted by an update or expansion is the lack of maps / map editor and teams in multiplayer (all vs all is the only option
Even with these disadvantage it is well worth it and has been for me even more enjoyable, or at least on a par with, Oblivion. Which i would rank as the best single player rpg of all time... i guess that shows how much i love Homm5 and i hope u will too
Graphics-hungry behemoth, not even running August 3, 2006 7 out of 21 found this review helpful
I have a relatively new computer with a high-end spec, but the game will barely run for me. The graphics have been overdone to the extent that the game just eats RAM and resources. Bring back Heroes 4, all is forgiven!
