Firstly, a lot of people are moaning about Windows Vista but Vista has no problems for myself. The only 1 peice of hardware that I own which doesn't work on Vista is a K-World DVB-T tv tuner. Vista runs very smoothly even under load.
Secondly, Halo 2 is very much a slightly better looking Halo except the gameplay is slightly worse. This game suffers the same as Halo, its overhyped by Xbox users because they're not used to such "high end" graphics. PC Gamers will find this game okay looking, even when new. Same with Halo, it was an okay looking game but both are very plain with little detail.
There's no replay value, it's very linear, the storyline is very good
Multiplayer is better than singleplayer but still, there are better games out there and have been since Halo 1/2's releases.

When I bought this I knew it was just the same thing as the xbox version, apart from having achievements.
Game has a few people playing online and a decent campaign storyline (terrible ending, though)
Multiplayer is now free, Microsoft announced only a few days ago that Games For Windows - Live is now free for everything.
So if you got this on the xbox, dont expect more than you already have, but if you havnt played this, you wont be dissapointed.

If you loved Halo 2 on the orginal Xbox, you will love this. Everything is the same as it was before. You dont even need a high end computer to run it.
If you have an Xbox 360 with Xbox Live and is always after the achievements, I would say go for it. Its a good way to earn those extra achievements.
All the people below me say it horrible because of the operating system (windows vista)and that graphics have not been improved...Its true but the operating system is brilliant and it runs ALL my XP games such as World Of Warcraft, Call of duty 2 and 4, Warcraft, Painkiller, Black and White 2, The Sims 2 etc.....
Dont be blunt about the negative reviews, if you loved it on the Xbox, You will love it on the PC,

Ok, well i didn't have an Xbox console until recently, so finally being able to play Halo 2 on my prefered platform, PC, was a treat. I followed the game through it's 14 month gestation, intregued as to what they were adding over the original Xbox, as well as being excited as to being able to finally play the game.
I think some of the reviews on this game are entirely childish. Please, sensible people out there, ignore the reviewers giving this game less than 3 stars, it's completely unfair and not an indication as to the quality of this game.
Right, my PC is: Intel Celeron D 2.8ghz, 1Gb RAM, Geforce 7600GT, Vista Home Basic.
As you can see, it's quite a modest rig. However, luckily this is a fairly old game. The port was in a perfectly acceptable condition, i can run the game maxed out, with some Anti Aliasing and with framerates around 40fps average. So very good performance even on my meagre components. The graphics are a definite improvement over the Xbox version from what i've seen, having it sharper with high resolution is great and the textures, models, LOD scaling and lighting are far better.
The AI has also been improved, along with the game menus and HUD. The sound is exceptional and as with all Halo games, the Music by Marty O'Donnell is exceptional and evocative of great sci-fi.
The game level and gameplay design is fantastic. There are loads of changes since Halo 1. Most notibly and usefully, the AI can now drive vehicles with you in the turret or side-passenger seats. The AI also responds with you, ducks so you can shoot over their shoulders not into the backs, as well as a general flow of conversation and marine/soldier chatting in the background. This all fits together into a great game altogether, with a fantastic story and thrilling cliffhanger conclusion.
The whole game is very much worth getting. If you previously owned and heavily completed the Xbox game, you may even still find usefulness in the games new Map Editor suite and new Map Pack exclusive to PC.
The little extras like tray and play, which lets you start the game up within seconds of inserting the DVD, are great polish to the game. The game is then background installed, with a percentage monitor on the in-game menu screen. Wonderfully, the performance is not hit by this either.
It's the version you will want if you never experianced the Xbox version, or just want to return to the game for some PC Multiplayer action, with an extra polished edition with extra content.

I have always been a fan of the Halo series, I have both halo 1 for PC and xbox and halo 2 for both PC and xbox.
Halo 2 for PC should have been a good game. they have changed little bits here and there from the xbox version and it plays a lot better and you will think it's great at first (if you have played the xbox version) but then you will start not to notice the changes. The AI has been upgraded and is now smarter which makes a real difference in the game, your enemies are smarter and so are you allies which seriously helps during combat. They have also played around with the movement settings so you have cleaner movements on the game and have changed the enemy settings so your enemies will move more realistically, will speak to each other when they don't know you're there and will work together more in combat situations.
The main problem with this game is that it's Windows Vista only. However, that doesn't mean you cant get around this. There are many places you can find software to run halo 2 for Windows XP, I don't have Windows Vista and run it on XP fine. A simple Google search will find the software (be advised, if you decide to run halo 2 on XP be sure that you search the internet for a "gravemind fix" for level 12, otherwise the game will keep asking for the original DVD, even if it's in the CD tray)
Running Halo 2 on win XP does have some problems. The single player runs flawlessly, I cant fault the performance in any way but the multilayer wont let you connect to servers without vista. If you get this for XP, you will only be able to use the single player functions only.
The graphics have been improved from the xbox version but only slightly on high settings. They could have done more to make the game look better, it still has some of the old xbox graphics glitches that should have been sorted by now.
This gets 3 stars from me because they could have done more to make it a better game, what they have done makes it a great game without a doubt, but there is so much more they could have done to make it a superb game. However, when you are playing the campaign, I cant say it's not fun, despite the multilayer not working (due to XP, it works on Vista) I would play the campaign again and again.
This is well worth getting if you are really into the halo series.
