Best game ever ever ever June 28, 2008
I have had this game for 6 months or so and i cant put it down. The campaign mode is fun, but online its just breathtaking. Its the detail that impresses me. To go to the bottom of a disused, empty, swimming pool and find a spray can with full detail on it is just amazing. My sister was over last week and saw the game online - she asked if it was actual footage of a village as it looks so real.
The additional maps you can download are also great, especially Killhouse.
I have played all the 'top' PS3 games out so far (Uncharted, MGS4, GTA4, Haze etc) and COD4 kicks all their butts.
The downside is that online gaming with other games will only be good if they equal or better what Infinity Ward have accomplished.
My Devil May Cry 4, Condemned 2 and MGS4 are waiting to be played but at the moment COD4 rules the PS3.

All who purchase COD 4, be warned. This will ruin your family and social life. Graphics are amazing, playability is wow. Have become addicted to the game play especially when online. You have been warned.

I will focus on the single player option. Every other review I have read says that this game is awesome, brilliant, the best game ever, by far the greatest first person shooter etc etc. And I am not about to disagree...it is all of those things. Truely breathtaking detail, scenery and environments. The graphics are simply superb, the sound is wicked and the gameplay is slick. The only point I would make is surely, thats what we should expect isnt it??? Lets focus on why this game is so good (from my point of view), and its not just because of the above. Its so good, because there is a real sense of danger, around literally ever corner. A.I is strong and no level seems to play the same. EG. alot of FPS levels will have say 15 guys in set locations so if you are killed it's a trial and error task of moving on. Not with this - yes there are a number enemies, but they move, flank and seriously attack.
Someone complained that your ammo runs out quickly and that aiming was difficult, someone complained that you die too easily. The reason I think this game is so good, is because you get a real sense of urgency, threat and relief when you complete a level. I felt that I had beaten each level by the skin of my teeth rather than comfortably, which I can only imagine is how a war zone really is - and this was the aim of the developers.
Added to that, there is a reasonable story to follow although I am not sure what the point of the Marine / SAS element is, other than to involve the two nations. There are enough elements of alternate game play (such as the night bombing mission) to change things up but otherwise the missions are frantic, threatening and offer a real challenge.
PS3 owners should expect slick, advanced looking games these days. COD4 brings that as standard but takes the gameplay to a far more realitsic level. A must have game but I marked it 4 due to its length!
