3 out of 5 stars A straightforward arcade style game.   September 26, 2008
I have never played any of the Final Fantasy games so when I bought a PSP I decided it was time to at least try one. I have found the game to be addictive and easy to play. The graphics are clear, and easy to see on the small screen. The only real drawback is the lack of engaging storyline to drive you forward. The world is quite large and as you move round you find small elements of plot but these are very small and don't help that much.

For the price and ease of game play this is a must buy as it can provide a little distraction whilst waiting for something else, but I don't find it engages my attention for much more than half an hour at a time.

3 out of 5 stars NOT the first FF on a handheld   June 22, 2008

I've played this game and basically all that happens is that you get told your some kind of legendary warriors and plonked(thats right, plonked) into a world to figure out what to do. Practically nadda to tell you what to do and absolutely MINIMUM storyline to get enveloped in. So if it's the great storylines of the latter games in the Final Fantasy series your interested in(like me), this game really isn't for you.

Im mainly writing this just to clarify this isn't the first Final Fantasy on a hand held (like stated in a previous review), and that FF 3,4,5, and 6 are available for the GameBoy SP/Advance and DS. I would recommend 4,5 and 6 if your thinking of investing in some retro FF (5 having a similar job based battle system to this one).

5 out of 5 stars The First Of A Phenomenon   June 19, 2008

Well if your a fan of the Final Fantasy games then I would say that you should recommend buying this as it's the very first Final Fantasy and so far the best remake. The reason why I brought this game was because I just wanted to know what the story was about to the very first game of Final Fantasy but when I started playing I was immediatly addicted.
Here's what I think about the game...

1)Gameplay=9/10. The gameplay may not be as long as some Final Fantsy games and there's not really any side quests on here. In fact there's none at all but it still keeps you wanting to play more and increase your levels. I'm roughly about 10 hours into it and my characters are at level 25. Also the main characters (4 of them) don't have a main name. You just have to make up your own name for them.

2)Graphics=8/10. The graphics aren't exactly PSP graphics because it's a remake but they've made the characters a tiny bit cartoony which is perfect because it doesn't look rubbish in pretty much no way at all.

3)Sounds=9/10. As with any Final Fantasy game it has amazing sounds especially during battle sequences and short video clips where the game is telling you about a certain part of the story. Every city has a different piece of music that goes to it and there all great bits of music that are sure to get stuck in your head when your trying to get to sleep. I don't think there's a single bit of the game that doesn't have sounds unless there's a specific reason as to why it doesn't have sounds.

The first FF game I ever played was X-2 not knowing at the time that it was a sequel of X. I also thought that all the FF games were linked to one story and that all the characters were in every game. So I thought that Yuna, Rikku and Paine had been in every other FF. How wrong I was but yeah overall I would say that this is a must have game if your a fan of FF.

5 out of 5 stars Bye bye social life...   March 28, 2008

The first game in the epic Final Fantasy series is now available on PSP and its great. The graphics have been updated since the NES days and looks positively nice on the little handheld.

The gameplay is really good. Its a good premise, with certain items needing to be found to unlock a new area, to get new stuff etc. It has a lot of play value in it and you may well find yourself stuck.

I have racked up almost 10 hours of play already on this and I'm only about half way through. If you like your games long and deep there is no better buy than this, especially at this price.

4 out of 5 stars First FF Game on a Handheld...   February 19, 2008

Having started off my love affair with Final Fantasy 8 for the PS1 I was mildly suprised when FF1 loaded through on my PSP. It actually looks old but I suppose it's meant to. This is the first time I've played the original and I'm already completely addicted.
