Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
It may have taken the world by storm with its huge range of genuinely innovative new games but theres no denying that the Nintendo DS is not exactly the most portable of portable consoles. Thats all changed now with this sleek and sexy update. When the Nintendo DS was first announced it was dismissed by many as a white elephant with a gimmicky interface and underpowered graphics. Over 15 million sales later and the story is a little different. The DS Lite is fully compatible with all existing Nintendo DS (and Game Boy Advance) games but its smaller, sleeker and lighter with a new design that perfectly matches the Nintendo Wii console. The most impressive feature is the new backlit screens which offer the sharpest image ever seen on a portable console. The DS Lite is available in three separate colours: White, Black and Pink. The DS Lite now has four brightness settings the highest is brighter than even the PSP and is clearly visible in any lighting condition. That sound? That'll be Sony executives running to the hills - wearing sunglasses. The Nintendo DS is the fast selling console ever in Japan. When the DS Lite was released, it sold out instantly, with queues of over 1,000 people a common sight. The DS gets a face lift to become Nintendos best looking portable ever. - Harrison Dent

3 out of 5 stars A bit of a let down really   April 19, 2008

I know I'm not a kid anymore, goodness knows 37 is not old but definately old enough for my son to be amazed I'm still alive. I bought one of these for the Brain Training and other brain related 'games', but decided that it would be a bit of a waste not to use it for a few games. My son has a PSP and really, it knocks the DS into a cocked hat as far as graphics, game play, ease of use, colours etc are concerned. I bought a few games, Brothers in Arms, Golden Compass and Simpsons and found that I was completely bored within about 2-3 minutes, whereas the PSP because of its instant action fast paced game play would keep me occupied for ages.
The DS is a well made console admitedly, with some nice touches and a wider variety of aftermarket accessories, but it still looks dated. The graphics and very slow pace of the games (at least the ones I have) make it feel like an early 90's console.
If you're my age and are getting one for yourself just for the fairly wide selection of brain training programmes out there, then it's great. Very satisfying and will create a very healthy atmosphere of competition between you and your partner. But for someone who is a connoiseur of graphics and gameplay, then I think they might be somewhat dissappointed.
The need to use the touch screen, main controls and shoulder buttons is a bit much at times and can become very frustrating for younger children.
The 3 stars is really just for the great fun it can be for us duffers using the brain training.
I'd get one just for that alone.
