This well known "Bible" of French grammar has recently undergone a complete transformation by its reviser, Glanville Price. The result is a thoroughly up-to-date reference work which will meet the needs of all those who wish to learn the finer points of French grammar in detail. In addition, the print quality is excellent. It is especially good that so many working examples are given for each aspect of grammar which has been explained. This leaves the reader in no doubt about the explanations given.
In general terms, the sheer detail and scope of the work is admirable. It is a "must have" for an person who wants to learn French grammar in depth. Remarkably, despite its depth of detail, the style is not too heavy and each grammatical point is carefully explained. The headings are clear and methodical.
I would not recommend the book to a beginner in French, as the content would be far too complicated. However, many people these days want to move on beyond the usual "tourist French" and not just learn phrases/vocabulary and elementary syntax. This book would lead such people into a clearer understanding of how French grammar works.
