Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Biography at its best.   September 17, 2005

A masterly work revisited, polished and updated with postscripts to the story that history has recently revealed. Meticulously researched, Fournier's life is recreated from a vast collection of letters and other primary source material. Gibson has interpreted the material and placed it in context with the times; familiarity with and empathy for his subject shines through and breathes life into what could otherwise have been dry accounting. This work is recommended to anyone who wants to see the man behind Le Grand Meaulnes.
