5 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Human Nature   April 26, 2004
6 out of 14 found this review helpful

I am not usually a fan of philosophical works as they usually involve agreat deal of gobbledygook which in the end doesn't mean anything and isnot really relevant to real life - even worse their message has absolutelynothing to do with Reality(eg:- Nietzsche, Aristotle etc.)
Schopenhaueris different. In this book he reveals human nature for what it is REALLYlike, without pretension. He does mention certain boring subjects such asduelling BUT it was very relevant in his day, so this can be excused. Twoof his most amusing truisms are that:-
"A Man's Intellect is ininverse proportion to the amount of time and effort he spends socialisingwith his fellow humans, or in frivolous pursuits such as playingcards."
AND
"The more a man has within himself the less he needs from otherpeople."
Basically, this book is the definitive text for the Realists in thisworld.
