2 out of 5 stars Gimmicky and lightweight   January 10, 2000

Unfortunately like a lot of things in this world, the book relies on a gimmick. Ok, so the book is a dog. It has a lead atached to the spine. It wants to be read. Great. Second time it's ok. Third time it's dull. Fourth and subsequent time it's tedious. Not enough content to allow re-reading (and what else do you do with children's books) I suspect also that my daughter (aged 4) will forget about this book when she hits 5. The age range if more 3-5, I think. No way a 7-year-old would be interested, unless they've led a sheltered life.

5 out of 5 stars Kids come back to this book again and again.   September 11, 1999

Don't let the previous reviewer's comments about witches and wizards put you off - this is a wonderful book for kids (and adults). The witch, magic maiden and wizard are relatively gentle creations and I can't see many kids having nightmares about them.

We have been asked to read this book to our two girls every night since it arrived as they are captivated by their new 'pet' - . Highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars Kinda Freaky   August 17, 1999

I liked the general idea of this book and I thought it looked really cute. But when I read it there were too many witches and wizards for my taste and what I want my kid reading. (Great idea though)

5 out of 5 stars hours of pleasure for adults and children   July 4, 1999

I bought this book on the off chance that it was good. It was one of the best buys I ever made, my 3 year old has learnt the book off by heart and asks for her puppy every night before any other story. I can't recomend this enough.

5 out of 5 stars FUN FOR THE READER AS WELL AS THE AUDIENCE   July 16, 1998

I had so much fun reading this book to my grandchildren that I have bought copies for all of them and to give as gifts to other children. They love having it read to them and I love seeing the thinking going on as they try to decide if this book really is a dog or if I am just playing with their minds again. I highly recommend this fun and charming book.
