Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Expanding on his mantra--"Get out of your head and into the moment"--Eckhart Tolle offers this new book on living in the now. Stillness Speaks emphasises the art of "inner stillness"--the place where thoughts, ego and attachments fall always and we are left only with what the moment has to offer: "When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose touch with the world".

Don't expect this to be a quick skim or even a straight-through read. Like his previous bestselling book The Power of Now, Tolle uses brief entries and numerous white spaces to give readers easy in-and-out access into enticing spiritual insights that expound on inner stillness, such as learning the difference between surrender and resignation, overcoming the fear death, and how to end suffering. In fact, this is designed to be an ongoing conversation. Pick it up any time or any place, but be sure to allow for plenty of breaks for serious contemplation. Even as you occasionally abandon the book, don't abandon the teachings, pleads Tolle. Embracing and practicing inner stillness is no longer a luxury, he writes,

but a necessity if humankind is not to destroy itself. At the present time the dysfunction of the old consciousness and the arising of the new are both accelerating. Paradoxically things are getting worse and better at the same time, although "the worse" is more apparent because it makes so much noise.
Devotees who have read all of Tolle's books and audio tapes probably won't find new ideas or information here. But they may appreciate the refresher course--revisiting familiar concepts in a slightly different package. --Gail Hudson, Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars Particularly powerful   May 16, 2008
Even though I have been around the block more than a couple of times with Eckhart's material and spirituality in general, I followed a recommendation and purchased the audio version of this (having picked up the book version in a shop and deciding I don't need it) and now listen to a chapter each day.

It's very nice indeed. It's a nice follow-on from the recent webcasts and one has the luxury of listening to him the whole time without the oprah-atics of having to listen to him being interrupted all the time!

4 out of 5 stars Meditative, Powerful and less marred by Unprovable & Unfalsifiable Metaphysics   May 1, 2008
Although much shorter and suffused with such lengths of silence that one wonders what exactly has been said, I found this to be more powerful than Eckhart Tolle's first book (which itself was brilliant). His original 'The Power of Now' was marred by the inclusion of an alluring but nonetheless unfalsifiable Eastern metaphysics. Tolle -almost- does what he says in the introduction: he presents a message that one already knows deep within oneself. I trust the listener will be discerning enough to recognize when Tolle unwittingly stops being a spiritual teacher and takes on the role of religious preacher. Thankfully, in this, his second book, he is less of the latter and more of the former.

5 out of 5 stars More spontaneous wisdom from Tolle.   February 27, 2008
Becoming aware of space and silence where ever you are creates an inner space between your thoughts, an inner stillness. This inner stillness takes you beyond your thinking mind (ego) and reveals the un-manifested dimension where problems cease to exist and you always have everything you need.

4 out of 5 stars stick with it   December 16, 2006

I have to admit to not understanding a thing that was written, a book to profound and deep. Spoken in riddles and tree hugging phrases a book you have to want to read, and not one you buy as a gift for some one else unless you are sure they ARE SPIRITUAL beings. Well this was my opinion when I first started to read it, but now I have changed my mind after I stuck with it and opened my mind to many of the things I read. I will keep trying to understand but I guess it's going to take me for ever. Nevertheless thank you Kerry for the gift.I would have rather read it than not.

4 out of 5 stars A collection of 'signposts'   January 10, 2006

While the CD’s aren’t intended to be ‘entertaining’ they are perhaps a little too ‘dry’. Eckhart Tolle presents many ‘signposts’ as he calls them. While the CD may be of interest to collectors of signposts, the CD is not very engaging and lacks the subtle dynamism and wry sense of humour of his talks in front of a live audience or at retreats. I’d still recommend buying the CD’s if you can afford them, but if you have a limited budget I’d recommend you buy his ‘live’ recordings in preference.
