trouble in paradise March 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
another novel adventure for the tenth doctor who, with his companion rose tyler. like all these it's an original story that runs for approx 248 pages of fairly large print and can be read by all ages. and feels like a story that could have been done on tv.
in this story the doctor and rose visit a strange alien world where the natives live peacefully at one with the planet. but all is not well here as the planet seems to be turning against them, and when a spaceship containing humans on an expedition to the place crash lands more trouble ensues.
can the doctor and rose find out what's causing the trouble and make it a paradise once again?
these books all follow a rather similar pattern in style and page count so with each it's a case of if there's anything to make it stand out. and this does. the planet setting is very well created and the prose really makes you feel like you're in the middle of a lush jungle. all the supporting characters are quite well drawn and have convincing motivations and you can feel for them as a result. the doctor and rose are perfectly characterised and you can imagine billie piper and david tennant saying their lines.
an entertaining read, and a slightly above average entry in this series.
Freema's reading makes this story even better.... November 13, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Last Dodo: is at last a great story from Jaci Rayner, and is thoroughly enjoyable and has a new fresh setting and imaginative twists and turns all along the way. I do have just the book of this, and even thought he book is the full story, theres just something about listening to Freema Agyeman reading this story that makes this book and even bigger hit. I think she has such a great speaking voice, so soft and easy to hear, not over the top with different voices. Shes great. She should have done the lot of these three stories with Martha in my opinion, but at least she did one. Thats better than nothing! A brilliant buy. And for once the bits left out on the audio arent the essential bits anyway, so its no real loss. In fact, as i said, with Freema its a big gain...
The Dr is Back September 14, 2007 The perfect gift for a Dr Who addict. Aimed at the 9 - 11 year age group, although it can be enjoyed by anyone. The books are slightly different to the TV program, being much more mystery, who-done-it rather than, being in imposible situations and escaping.
The Price Of Paradise finds the Dr and Rose on the perfect planet, after following an S.O.S from a crashing spaceship. Full of edge of your seat suspence, this book will leave you guessing right up to the last page. A good present for an 9-12 year old for a birthday or Christmas.

This is a brilliant book and I love it. It is nothing like the TV programme... which is good as I don't like it! This is an amazing book that is suitable for aged 9-13 year olds. Thanks for reading

This audiobook rocks!
Fast, sharp, and neck-jerking, this story follows the Doctor and Martha as they go to the Museum of the Last Ones after the Doctor asks, "Where would you like to go?" but this museum is far from safe as they discover every extict animal still alive, in suspended animation and going missing one by one. It, then, becomes more dangerous to the Doctor after the creepy curatior discover who the Doctor is...
And then all hell breaks loose.
The story is clever, and the sections where Martha speaks are excellently spoken by Freema Agyeman. It makes up for thw withdrawn symptons I'm egtting having to wait till mid-series 4 for her return...!
