Be warned: once you have read Macaulay he will colour your politics and your history for ever!
This must be an abridgement. It is better to look for and enjoy the full text.
A damn good read!! December 21, 2000 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
A highly readable, if inflamatory, account of the rise of Whig power in late C17 and early C18. Some of his observations about Tories, in the introduction, are still relevent today! The book is essentially a defense of the glorious revolution of 1688, and he is blistering in his attack on everbody who disagreed with the resulting constitutional settlement. He is as bitter towards the low church dissenters as he is towards the Catholic Church and Scottish tribes!
