5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Frame   November 26, 2008
When i bought the frame it was for my nan for her 80th birthday to keep the families photo's on it. I was so impressed with the spec of it and the price that I have now decided to get one for myself and one for my parents as they were also very impressed.

I have seen so many different types on the market but this one is by far the best I have seen for price and quality. I would point my friends in the direction of this frame anyday as its awesome!!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Good looking screen let down by poor graphics and s/w glitches   November 13, 2008

At first glance I thought I had bought a great frame and for a good price. Unfortunately it had to be returned because of:

The colour depth on the screen is not good, at least on my unit. I suspect the graphics card is quite limited by today's true colour standards. This means I get very noticeable colour banding on photos that have a wide range of colours. Given this product is a photo frame, this is enough of a reason for me to reject it. I see no reason why the image quality should be no less than that which I get with my computer monitor. Please note that I am not talking about resolution, that is fine for the job. I also felt the screen could have been brighter but turning the brightness up just washed things out, so I guess this may be a factor of the not too brilliant contrast ratio.

Second issue is that the auto on timer starts the unit at the main menu and not playing photos / videos / music (or whatever the unit was doing at auto off time). Would anyone want their unit to automatically come on at a set time and sit there doing nothing? I very much doubt it. This is a very useful feature ruined by bad software design in my opinion.

The third issue is that screen speakers make a worrying popping noise when turned on or off (this might just be my unit though), certainly louder than a typical power on/off mains surge click. I am concerned about the overall effect this will have on the unit's life.

Finally, the documentation regarding the internal battery states you should not charge the unit for more than 8 hours to preserve the battery's long term life, and claims the battery charge will last for about a month. This means you should unplug the unit after 8 hours, let the unit run till the battery is flat, then start all over again. The Linx website says the battery will last about 2 hours, which conflicts with the documentation. Clearly some confusion here, maybe just a documentation error, but certainly leaves an unanswered question in my mind.

I just want a unit I can plug in and forget with auto on/off to save power. I thought this was the one, but unfortunately that was not the case for the reasons mentioned above. The unit is now being returned. I will go for a more expensive mainstream brand next time.

5 out of 5 stars Great bit of Kit !   October 17, 2008

Just taken delivery of the new 10" memoire, very nice bit of kit, I had a cheaper frame given to me last Christmas and I have been looking for something that is a bit more substantial and looks the part and this ticks all the box's.

The screen is great quality - Digital panel , beware my old cheap one and I guess with most of the others was an analogue (or so I am told) I cant tell you the technical difference, but think of it as analogue very grainy and the digital one like your computer monitor !.

Remote is great, battery is great but the real winning thing for me is the software on the frame, again my old one and others I have seen have been awful and complicated to use, this was a doddle to set up and even the manual makes sense, clearly written by someone that understand English and not a simple Chinese conversion!.

I have to say very very impressed, and would recommend, the design is stunning.

5 out of 5 stars What a great improvement   July 25, 2008

Just delivered today it's up and running straight out of the box, and I'm chuffed to bits.
I previously had the Linx 10.2 " with the silver frame which I had to return for a refund due to a malfunction and I'm so glad I did.

The memoire is a new model with improved looks much improved programming.

Some bullet points (mainly positive) for consideration.

1) The overal appearance is much more grown up with no more naff blue lights on the side.

2)There is no longer any wall hanging bracket just a push twist and click prop / support stand.
I did think the prop was a bit fiddly to fit and seemed a bit flimsy, so don't go mad with it when assembling it might break ?

3)You can now opt for time intervals between displays from a few seconds / minutes to an hour. Great.

4) plenty of transition themes to choose from.

5) Audio is the only area which is worse than the previous model.I never was expecting stereo quality, but the sound on this one is quite literally painfully tinny. ( what a shame).
You might also like to note that music playing be it background or otherwise is MP3 only. ( just done a quick painless MP3 conversion crash course so no problem now)

6) On screen menu and remote control functions really self explanetory so no headaches there.

7) Even the translator for the instruction manual has got his / her act together so Chinglish is replaced by near proper English, not that you need the book because the on screen menu / remote control functions are a doddle. ( throw the book away and play it should be and is that easy to use).

Still plenty more functions to explore so I will end this review now.

Despite the crap sound quality I would not hesitate to give this model a mighty thumbs up.

Stop Press - The Missing LINX

I regret that I am now obliged to edit my review, in the light of a glitch / functionality issue that I have discovered with the auto on / off function.

I have tried and failed to get any response form Linx customer / tech support via their links, ( as was the case when I enquired for info before buying this product).
I even contacted Amazon to assist with contacting Linx, in order to avoid a negative write up, but they were unable to assist.

I can only conclude that Linx are not interested in me or issues re their products and heve totally lost my confidence in them.

Therefore I have taken up Amazon's offer of a refund and I am returning the product, but more because of the lack of response from Linx, than the minor defect in their product, which I could have probably lived with.
I won't be back to LINX.
