I didn't find this book much use. The site information is attractively presented with a wealth of detail, but the map is unhelpful, containing very few place names, and shows the sites as arbitrary numbers which then have to be looked up in one of the 3 indices before you can find the entry in the gazeteer. Even when you find the entry, you are not told where the site is (e.g. where the nearest significant town is). And it is too large to fit in my caravan bookshelf. I also had the Italian version and toured Europe this autumn but did't use either book once.
You would do much better to buy the Caravan Club's Europe 1 and 2. These cost a bit more (not much if you're a member), between them cover the whole of Europe, and contain about five times as many sites in each country, with pretty well all the site information you need, albeit in shorthand, updated by the members who use the site. Included is a completely comprehensive guide to every aspect of motoring abroad, even down to individual motorway tolls.
Each country has a map which shows the names of the towns nearest each site or group of sites, and the entry in the gazeteer tells you how far away it is from that town and in which direction. It's in alphabetical order so doesn't need an index.

5 out of 5 stars a reliable guide to renting accomodation on good sites   October 30, 1999

This excellent guidebook is very easy to follow-the campsites are listed in chapters by region, there being a short description of the countryside, food, wines and special attractions of each area at the start of each chapter. There are roughly 100 campsites listed, each having a full page of truthful description of the site and facilities,a full rundown of prices and photographs of the site and accommodation. In 1999 we used four different sites from this guide and also sites booked through a tour operator. In everey case the privately booked sites were superior. We have also found that it is far cheaper, especially during school holidays, to book direct with the camp site and book a ferry crossing through one of the travel websites. We wholeheartedly recommend this guide.
