Brilliant!! February 2, 2006 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
After pondering over which book to select to help me write my dissertation I chose this one and I'm so glad that I did. Before reading this book I knew nothing about the various chapters you should include in your dissertation. This book teaches you alot about how to structure your work and with its detailed explanations allows you to become familiar with various terminology. Alongside reading this book I attended dissertation lectures offered by my degree institution. Because I had read this book I found it easy to relate to the information given by my tutor. I am still writing my dissertation and constantly refer back to this book. I am a drama degree student and feel that anyone studying any degree subject would find it very useful.
Addresses students' concerns. February 1, 2002 48 out of 50 found this review helpful
As someone who works privately with students, helping them with dissertations, I highly recommend this book. When students contact me in regard to assistance with their dissertation, I recommend that they buy this book and use it as a reference. The information contained in this book anticipates and answers the questions that students have about the dissertation process and the contents of each chapter. It is one of the most practical guides for writing a dissertation that I have come across.
Pricey but ultimately Priceless August 24, 2001 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
This is without doubt the best of the vast number of dissertation study guides available. Despite being a little pricey in comparison to others the scope and quality of advice in this book is priceless during those panic moments of dissertation writing.
Can you embark on your journey without this roadmap? October 30, 2000 47 out of 50 found this review helpful
Written for students about to embark on a masters thesis or doctoral dissertation this book, provides an overview of the research process, from the first step of choosing a suitable topic to the finished product. As the production of a research project or enquiry is similar, many elements of this book may also be considered useful for under-graduates preparing for completion of their course. The publishers also claim the text is suitable for professors for providing guidance to students. During the inevitable moments of panic when your tutor is fast asleep in bed and you are staring at a blank computer screen, turn to a copy of Surviving Your Dissertation for comfort and inspiration. Each chapter concludes with student's suggestions for completing the tasks previously outlined and you may find practical advice given by someone who has survived the journey before you. This book may help you to get started if you have a long way to go, help you to decide on the road to take, plan your route, and reach your destination.
