5 out of 5 stars Doctor Who - Human Resources: Pt. 1   August 17, 2007

Having listened to all but one of the BBC7 Doctor Who Audio's with The Eighth Doctor, (Played by Paul McGann)and his new companion Lucie Miller (Played by Sheridan Smith) Human Resources continues on after the audio No More Lies with the Headhunter finally catching up with Lucie and taking her away to her new job.

The Doctor is unaware of this until the Cloister Bell starts to ring out and he is unable to find Lucie. With the Tardis unable to leave with out her The Doctor options are zero until another Time Lord shows up with a request and a time ring.

Meanwhile Lucie wakes up in a building owned by Hulbert Logistics and put to work with her memories of The Doctor, The Tardis and all the place's of time and space she has been, looking to her more and more like a dream.

I liked Human Resources with a great cast heading the play with Nick Briggs as the Doctor enemies The Cybermen, Katharina Olsson as the Headhunter and Ray Marsden as Todd Hulbert. This story ends on a greatcliff hanger and I myself wanting to know what happens in the next part of this great story.

5 out of 5 stars And just to remind me why I started buying Big Finish stories in the first place!   August 5, 2007
After the unbelievably poor stories of 2007's main Dr Who range it is a delight for me to say that this is an absolute stormer of a story! Well, so far...

The obstreporous Lucie has been nicely assimilated into the Doctor's world when she is unceremoniously jerked straight back out of it again. She finally gets to where she wasn't supposed to go and the whole thing speeds along like a runaway train.

The supporting cast are uniformly excellent, without the big names that marred previous BBC 7 audios, and it sounds excitingly cinematic. Oftentimes I could see vast images in my head that I haven't seen in the main Big Finish range for quite a while. The direction is concise and clipped, the sound effects approachable and the lack of telepathic moments is to be applauded.

Already my odds on favourite (along with the wonderful Mark Gatiss audio play 'Invaders From Mars') to be remade as a Tennant TV story - now THAT would be something to see - I can't say how overjoyed I am to find this gem among the rocks.

You see, Big Finish CAN get it right when they want to! Perhaps it was the BBC commission that made them try harder?

All I can do now is hope that part 2 lives up to expectations...!

5 out of 5 stars first day on the job   August 1, 2007
Seventh audio in an eight part series featuring the eighth doctor who and his new companion, feisty northern teenager lucie miller. All these are forty five minute long episodes. Some are complete stories and others are two parters. This is one of the latter, and will be concluded in the forthcoming human resources part two.

Throughout these stories, there's been a running story. Lucie was put with the doctor by the time lords because she saw something she shouldn't have. But they blocked her memory of it. And a mysterious bounty hunter has been on her trail. Now with lucie in the clutches of those who were after her, the doctor is on his way to the rescue. But he's been warned not to interfere too much. And he might just find there's a good reason for that..

You will find this a little tricky to get into if you haven't heard any of the previous ones in the series, since it ties up a lot of plot from them. It also brings back an element of the show that hasn't been present in the new tv series, for reasons that will quickly become apparent. This is a very strong script, lucie's predicament being an interesting take on a modern aspect of life, the cast are as good as ever, especially the two leads, and it ends on one of the most fantastic cliffhangers the show has ever done! So don't read the cast list or the inlay first if you want to keep that a surprise.

There are twelve minutes worth of interviews with the cast at the end of the disc. These are a little cursory, but they have their moments.

A really great audio. Roll on part two.
