"You Unlimited" is an unfettered, straight talking, common sense approach to the enrichment of life. It avoids the goobledegook and affected jargon so often encountered with supercilious counselors who preach to us on how to live our lives from bed wetting, sexual dysfunction, the seven year itch to menopause and everything in between. Indeed, the authors have," talked the talk and walked the walk,"--and lived the life--and know what they are espousing. Persuasively and without the pomposity and ponderousness of so many preachers of tired bromides, they illuminate a convincing, realistic, and attainable enrichment of life. A,"portfolio life," may not be for everyone, but "You Unlimited" stimulates a thoughtful introspection in a way that is easy to understand, enjoyable, and also entertaining.
A great guide to a new way of life October 24, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd always thought about taking a portfolio route but never taken the leap. This book has a realism about the risks and the opportunities and a structure that guides through all the stages of making a change. It's a sort of reference book as well as guide to taking the right decision for career. And it's written with a bit of humour and lots of real life experiences. I think readers will get a lot of inspiration and confidence to understand what portfolio life can do for them

This is THE book for anybody who has ever wanted to take control of their work and their life. It covers every possible aspect from how and when to set up your business to stress management and healthy eating. I was really surprised at the holistic approach taken by the authors as I had expected the book to be very much based on the business aspects of getting together a portfolio of work. However as well as challenging you to think about where you are in your life and where you want to be it also encourages you to think of how any changes you make may impact on others around you. The book is easy to read and free of jargon. It is exciting and inspiring and gives many examples from people who have successfully made the transition from the standard 9-5 lifestyle to one of choice and balance. I would thoroughly recommend reading this book if you are looking for ways on how to maximise your potential and finding fulfillment.
An easy-to-read practical guidebook September 21, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I liked this a lot. It describes the life I lead and it's given me a lot more confidence that there are plenty of people doing what I do. I've been doing 'the portfolio life' and enjoying it for two years now, but You Unlimited would have been very useful when I was starting. If you're like me and find that full-time employment doesn't give you room to live your life fully, or you want to turn your passion into a business, or just get more control of your time, then I can really recommend this book. It will help you work out what you want out of your life and then gives advice on how to get started. The section at the end wasn't as relevant for me because I've already had to develop the skills it covers - selling, networking, presenting, etc - but if you're just starting off it could be great advice. I particularly liked the personal stories from people who've started portfolio careers and I would have loved to have my own in. But best of all the authors invent a new title to describe what I do: I now call myself a Portfolio Professional. I'm walking taller already.
