Would really recommend this book, we went to some of the shops and restaurants they recommend and weren't dissapointed.
invaluable advice June 28, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I used this book on my first ever visit to Marrakech and Essaouira and it gave me all the confidence I needed to get the most out of each - spot on.
Excellent book - full of little gems! April 16, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Visited Marrakech a couple of weeks ago and took this due to previous reviews on this website. Had a wonderful time - it really helps to plan ahead and read up on what you can and want to do. Favourite tips from this book - a beautiful thai restaurant called Nawarma and a place to buy Argan Oil. Unfortunately didn't manage to get to Essaouira but as i hope to return to Marrakech soon, am sure this guide will prove invaluable! Also took Rough Guide Map of Marrakech - again excellent!
Top time out trip to Marrrakech December 14, 2006 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
A fine tour guide that won't haggle over its price, this Time Out effort acted like a bible for our four days in Marrakech and three in Essaouria.
It delivers an exceptional and entertaining experience and a good price guide for dumb tourists.
Only one word of warning. We booked the Casa Lalla riad in the Medina on this guide's great 'foodie' tribute to its chef Richard Neat. On arrival (6 Dec 2006) we discovered he'd moved on seven weeks previously. That's guide books I suppose.
As the guide states, Moroccans are the friendliest of people (although there can be an additional price tag attached which although doesn't hurt the wallet, can leave a bad taste) but our experience of our host Riads (two) wasn't always the most thoughtful. Twice, as residents, we had reservations for dinner cancelled without warning or even notification. Don't expect things to happen. Best to get on the front foot and find out if dinner is actually going to be cooked up that evening.
The perennial problem with guides like this is they are so trusted they become self-defeating. We went at the quietest time of the year, but had a couple of hundred others chose to follow the Tine Out route, the sheer numbers would quickly have changed many of the experiences we encountered.
accurate and invaluable guide for this amazing city November 4, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Having taken a couple of guide books for our holiday in Marrakech we found it was the'Time Out' guide that we dipped into every time. Excellent and up to date info covering the obvious queries to the down right obscure..........visit Marrakech to understand why this excellent guide is the only thing you'll need to explore this chaotic and magical city.
