Hedonism in the Hedonist's Playground October 26, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I found this title an invigorating departure from the standard Rough Guide and Lonely Planet guides all too often treated with a religious reverence by their zealous readership. Quite simply, travelling need not be rough, nor lonely. The 'Hedonist's' catalogue and this author in particular are certainkly imbued with such an ethos.
In this edition the joyous vibrancy of a bustling city is entertainingly captured by an author who is sympathetic to his subject matter whilst knowing well what the foreign eye seeks. Argentina's hardships may have been tourism's gain, but what we are presented with is a celebration of a city and country with a natural sense of style and coolness umatched elsewhere. I developed a real flavour of what to expect when I got there and found the book captured the ambience and character of the place exactly. Beyond that, as a resource it is hugely benificial. Every taste is catered for with clubs, restaurants and attractions being offered by the bucket load.
Further, the edition is beautifully punctuated with many photagraphs which, when read on the dreary 9.17 from Doncaster to Hull on an October mroning, seriously whet the appetite for what lays ahead. In a nutshell: go to BA. But make sure you go with this book.
Fiercely Fabulous August 20, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Finally a guide book that tells you about places to stay that arent "cheap and cheerful" or infested with cockroaches. not everyone wants to bargain hunt in filthy markets and Hedonists Guide to Buenos Aires tells you wherre to stay and where to go out if you're looking for the best. its well written and humerous.
