5 out of 5 stars Very useful compact guide   March 26, 2007

I would highly recommend this useful yet compact guide. It's small enough to slip easily into a bag, yet contains all the useful information you could possibly want. I struggled to find any other guidebooks that cover just Northern Ireland, yet it's a relatively small area and so fits perfectly into a pocket guide.

There are lots of photos and plenty of interesting facts. It's also well written and full of information, without digressing into irrelevancy. All of the main sights are covered and the structure fits well around a walking tour, making it logical and easy to find what you're looking for quickly. The maps are clear and easy to follow.

As well as covering Belfast itself, the guide also covers the other main sights in Northern Ireland - including the Giants' Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, and the other main cities and towns. This is a really useful feature as many tourists will be just as interested in these as in Belfast itself, and the country's small size make it perfectly feasible to visit these during even a short stay.

There are a few pages on history and culture. The only sections that are lacking are those on accommodation and restaurants, and general tips like possible dangers. There are some restaurant and hotel recommendations but they're not very comprehensive or detailed. However, the convenience and ease of use of the guide more than make up for it. The guide also caters for the full range of travellers and could be used by anyone from backpackers to those with families.
