Comprehensive, readable and well-illustrated February 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an excellent general guide to south west France. It is comprehensive in its coverage, highly readable, with plenty of detailed anecdotes to enliven the narrative, and well illustrated with abundant maps and photographs. It also offers a continuous text which can be read as a book, in contrast to some travel guides which adopt a scrapbook approach.
It is not a guide for back-packers, however: it is too heavy for that, and like most of the regional (as opposed to the city) books in the Blue Guide series, you really need to have a car (or a bicycle) to get around on if you are going to get the best out of the account.
It is very firmly a guide for people who enjoy looking at architecture, paintings and sculpture, wandering around towns and villages, and appreciating the landscape and history of France.
