5 out of 5 stars Indispensable!!!   October 19, 2006

I love the series of Mapguides and the one for Paris is no exception.
In a thin, easily portable, pamphlet, is every square inch of Paris, broken down into small sections, one section on a page. The map sections all have a letter and number grid to help you locate streets. There is a comprehensive list of streets and squares in the back of the book.
There is also a metro and a bus map, and essential, brief, information on many sightseeing venues, including Versailles.

The only additional map you would need, and those come free at hotel desks in Paris, is one complete, large, fold-out map that you could open and use to get a city-wide perspective.

This book is way more than just a map. Having accompanied me on numerous trips to Paris, I can safely say (having tried many alternatives) that this map is an exceptionally trustworthy travel companion and undoubtedly the definitive map to bring to the city of light. This outstanding guide lists all the main streets as well as many alleyways, backstreets, steps, impasses, bridges etc that are nowhere to be found on other maps. It marks all the metro stops, landmarks, supermarkets, celebrated shops, cemeteries, bus routes and general places of interests, and does so without every becoming cluttered or confusing. It also includes detailed maps of the main parks of Paris which I have been unable to find elsewhere.

As well as the main map this book also contains a guide to the attractions of Paris, a metro map and a bus route map. While not as indespensible as the main map, these features are a welcome addition as it helps to be able to cross reference.

To appreciate this book fully you really need it in your hand in a rainy Montparnasse backstreet. Other books may appear attractive on Amazon, but this book really does the job like no other, and when you get a look at the pages you will understand why. Easy to use, readeable, comprehensively indexed, and exceptionally detailed. A MUST BUY for anyone travelling to Paris. (The only criticism I can think of is that it could cover a slightly larger area, including the further out parts of Montmartre and Montparnasse, but for 99% of travellers this won't matter. Other maps don't cover these areas either.)

4 out of 5 stars Just the Job for a city visit   September 29, 2003

It’s a handy size for carrying around with you, not bound as usual paperbacks but stapled together. The street Map covers MOST of the area within the Peripherique (motorway which circles inner Paris), with the Metro stations prominently marked in Red. Bus routes are marked in grey with numbers in red. It has an Index for streets at the rear, but if the street name is more than one word e.g. Rue Lucien Sampaix, look up Sampaix not Lucien. It has a double page coloured Metro map at front plus 16 pages of touristy information such as museum opening days and times. Printed on decent paper and should last. It seems pretty good and just the job for a city visit.

5 out of 5 stars Clear concise informative   July 17, 2003

(Review is for 2nd edition)
I already had a guide to Paris, and was looking for a compact streetmap covering the main central area. After checking about 4 others in the bookshop, this came well above the rest.
Very clear - the map has metro stops on it, hotels, places of interest, shops etc. It also seems to include more of the smaller street names on it that the others did not.
It has a v clear metro map in it, and also a Noctambus map.
I didnt really look at the guide bit (Restaurants, places of interest, shops etc) but it looks clear and concise.
Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Essential map and guide to Paris, superb, second to none   January 7, 2001

Absolutely essential to anyone visiting Paris. I will be first in the queue to buy the next edition, but I have used it for over six years (many visits) and it has never let us down. We wouldn't travel there without it! Apart from maps it has history and background, details of entertainments and maps of outlying disticts like the Bois and Versailles, often missing from maps. Pocket sized and informative it also has advice about eating and drinking and helpful maps of the transport system. Many popular hotels are shown on the clear maps. We can't speak too well of this indispensable little book. Go and buy it if you are going to Paris, it'll be your best Paris holiday investment ever. All for under five pounds!
