The Only Guide to Provence You'll Ever Need April 11, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well, I've just come back from Provence and during my travels I threw away or gave away all my other guidebooks. This book is the business. It has all the practical information you need but what is more, it has all kinds of inspiring and entertaining material -- anecdotes about places, really honest opinions, plenty of insider knowhow. I love this book. You don't need any other guides to Provence if you have this one.
Provence from your sofa March 29, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Some people buy travel guides in order to travel; I buy them to curl up on the sofa and be transported to another place - so a writer who can wrap up the atmosphere, the tiny details of life and leisure, plus some thoughtful advice,is perfect for me. If Ferne Arfin says don't park your car facing the wind at Plage de Beauduc, then I wouldn't dream of doing it. If she says wear a sweater in La Cathedral des Images, I'd wear one. I don't camp, kayak or cliff-climb - but I ever think of doing any of those things in Provence, this is the book I would take.
Provence, here I come! March 23, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This practical, yet personal, detailed guide to Provence includes all the usual advice on where to eat and stay, transportation, etc, and adds tasty morsels of history, culture and regional interest. Colourfully written, presented in an easy-to-digest style, and very nicely illustrated, this is clearly written by someone who knows the area well. Don’t be put off by the ‘adventure guide’ title; this travel aide includes some lovely treks, hikes, and activities (cycling, boating, rock climbing, boating), but is also aimed at anyone who wants to get the very most out of visiting the region in terms of history, cuisine and events. Finding this guide has reminded me what a wonderful destination Provence is, and inspired me to return after a gap of far too many years.
