Excellent & helpful would recommend to anyone. May 10, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great intro to fireworks. It is filled with some really great, impressive and inspiring examples. There are a few - only a very few examples that don't seem to work - but other than that each area of fireworks is taught by the use of an example/mini-tutorial. I wouldn't recommend the book if you were a complete computer novice. If you are not a total novice you will enjoy working through this book and learn a lot about fireworks in the process.
Very Dissapointed With This Book November 20, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Usually i would spend ages and type a really worthwhile review, but i'm afraid it will not be the case with this book. Very dissapointing, as this book is more like a Fireworks Forum for questions and answers than a super cool book with great Tutorials. I expected to see unbelievable effects being produced, but all the book does is give answers to people who have contacted the Authors who then solve their problems by showing them how certain effects can be produced, as it is like the Authors make a fortune at selling this book by answering peoples Trial and Error. Not much more to say on this book, as maybe it was because i had learned so much from the Fireworks 4 Bible that i do not appreciate this book, but i suppose if it lived up to the name it was given (Playing with Fire) i might had given it a better review, but as far as i am concerned this was not the case. Definitely not a book for beginners, but the book states this. Another very frustrating feature was that the book is short of the 256 pages that the order page states that it has, as it only has 217 learning pages, and approx, 19 of these are introductions, contents and preface etc. I am glad that i have learned Fireworks 4 from the Bible as it will be hard to beat. Buy it if you have plenty of money, but if you want a real book, then get the Bible. I think of all the reviews that i have given on books, this one is the first i have ever given a dissapointing review on. Only 1 star from me.
Practical and enjoyable November 13, 2001 This is a splendid book made up of series of step-by-step exercises. I have worked my way through every one and I have enjoyed the process immensely. At the end of it I feel much more confident with Fireworks. I have used another package for 4 years without ever getting beyond the techniques for basic photographic image handling. It took this book to introduce me to the excitement of graphic art. I read the Fireworks manual and another reference manual (Sandee Cohen's Fireworks Visual Quickstart Guide) before tackling Playing With Fire. As you begin the exercises there is a lot to learn and in one or two places a separate reference book or Fireworks Help comes in handy. But as you move on, the use of tools and techniques repeats itself and things become easier. The content is highly practical (I have already used some of the end results) and the format is striking. Full marks for this one.
Good, but not written well! September 8, 2001 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book after Dreamweaver 4 Magic thinking that it would have much the same easy, fully explained step-by-step instructions. It did not. I am confused with the examples in this book because as times the author doesn't include very important info and assumes that the reader is completely familiar with all of the tools in Fireworks. It simply needs to be written more clearly, as the DW 4 Magic book was. Anyone can follow that book.
Best Fireworks book around! Get it now or regret it later July 17, 2001 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Hey All, well as i am the first person writing the review i will try to write as much as possible with lots of detail : Even from looking at the cover you can see this is a good professional book. The book contains 8 chapters from starting making ur first building blocks to make some great razzle dazzle to greating some good animating techniques. This books isnt for people who want to know fireworks works or what each and every feature of it does, it simpley tells you how to great some damn good tgechniques with lots of tips. The instructions are very clear, step by step guide and there is no places for confusion. There are thousands of pictures it seems to you cant get lost at all! I gave this book 5 stars and i think deserves it. get it now! best fireworks book around!
