Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars We are only guests on earth   August 24, 2008
This beautiful film tells the story of Reda (Nicolas Cazale) and his father (Mohamed Majd) who drive from France to Mecca. Reda goes unwillingly - he no longer understands the background of his father's world and religion. It's a theme many immigrant families from Morocco and Algeria have to deal with - the westernisation of their children and the clash of beliefs and culture.

Over the course of the long drive they meet various individuals in different countries and each encounter teaches a subtle lesson. They reach Mecca with trials and tribulations but also some very funny moments, and the sad ending which brings insights into Reda's life.

It's really tender story where the son comes to love and appreciate his father more fully. The music greatly underscores without taking over the picture.

Highly recommended!
