| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Rick Stein confesses that, following the world-wide peregrinations of his Seafood Odyssey, the prospect of a seafood tour of the coasts of the United Kingdom and Eire seemed humdrum. That he was completely wrong is shown triumphantly by the resulting Seafood Lover's Guide, an account of the fish and shellfish harvested around the coast, where to buy it and how to cook it and eat it. This book will be for many readers an eye-opener in the richness and variety of the country's seafood. Starting from his home in the west country, Stein travels the length of a coastline "of matchless beauty", talking to fishermen, suppliers and cooks. He skilfully maintains a very delicate balance between a chef's enthusiasm for the product, as it were, on the one hand, and a proper dismay at the state of the fisheries after decades of thoughtless over-fishing. Yet the overall mood is optimistic, as he meets so many people who care so passionately about the fruits of the sea. Each regional section contains a choice selection of Stein recipes, some local, some modified, some unapologetically foreign, all expertly crafted (of course) and delicious, all designed to show off the superlative quality of the seafood. Representative highlights might include Gurnard Fillets with a Potato, Garlic and Saffron Broth, Split Herrings with a Caper and Fresh Tomato Salsa, Seafood and White Bean Cassoulet with Salt Cod, Garlic and Toulouse Sausage, and the exquisitely simple Halibut Poached in Olive Oil with Cucumber and Dill. Regional listings of seafood restaurants, fish and chip establishments, fishmongers, seafood suppliers and smokers add further value to this very classy production. --Robin Davidson

Love it! Love it! Love it! October 8, 2001 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
A great book for seafood novices. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fish but is too scared to try cooking it at home. Rick's easy to follow recipes are simple, delicious, and quick to do. What's more, mine even came out looking like the photo!! What more can you ask for?

A Perfect book for those who are advanced in the cooking of fish and live in the UK or Ireland. Rick's TV programme was great and I had hoped the book would be full of recipes containing simple and wholesome ingredients with detailed method, comment and to finish a photo. All was there except the Photo and should you not live in the UK or Ireland you will have little use for the Fish shop and restaurant address and trivia included. I shall just have to buy other fish cookery books from this excellent chef.
As good for food as it is for travel! February 23, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
We have greatly enjoyed the Seafood Lovers' Guide for mainly two reasons - not only it provides inspiring recipies, but also good advise for restaurants to visit and fishmongers to find. Unfortunately we did not have the book while touring Scotland, but now it forms one essential piece of preparation for future trips.
another fishy delight! January 14, 2001 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
An excellent book to while away the dark nights and inspire us to try different fish and to be more adventurous in cooking - as it has me!
