This is where it all REALLY begins October 19, 2006 Any X-men fan should read their biggest ever storyline - and its finally possible to do that in chronological order thanks to these epic volumes! If you're a new fan, or missed the initial print some 10yrs ago now (like I did), then this is a must.
The first book was a little disappointing as stories were all over the place and you really didnt know what was happening, with characters and teams changing from each segment. Its understandable as I discovered that most of them were back stories written after the main event. Hence why anyone starting should read this first and the epic book 1 last.
Seeing the characters we all know and love as different incarnations is fascinating. Good guys now bad guys and vice versa, super-cool different costumes, new teams and leaders, and mutants exploring different sides of their powers. Watch how relationships unfold - Magneto and Rogue, Wolverine and Jean Grey, and more intriguingly, the brotherly rivalry of Havok and Cyclops. All these elements wrapped up in a truly "epic" storyline involving major players and those with small cameos, in a world without Professor X, against the X-men's greatest ever villian - Apocalypse!
The only slight complaint I have is the artwork, which is ok for its day, but not a patch on anything now. Additionally, there are a few irritating typo's, but overall this is highly recommended and you definitely won't be able to find it anywhere cheaper then Amazon!
