5 out of 5 stars Our Vendee bible   March 3, 2008

Following a trawl of the internet sites before our trip to the Vendee i came across Angela Bird's Vendee site and the reccommended book. I purchased it and it was integral to us having a fantasic holiday. Knowing when markets were on, the better less developed areas of the Marshes to visit etc. It was our bible for the holiday and i can highly reccommend it.

5 out of 5 stars This Book helped Save our Holiday!   September 3, 2007

Having just returned from the Vendee, I can honestly say that this book helped save our holiday. With the unexpected poor weather, the number of days spent on the beach were limited. Therefore, a review of this book each morning over breakfast enabled us to pull together a plan for the day.
The book is well written and includes information that is just not available anywhere else.

5 out of 5 stars MOST OF OUR CLIENTS WON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT   September 2, 2007
This is a comprehensive, well illustrated and easy to read in depth guide to the vendee. It has been bought and enjoyed by dozens of our clients during the thirteen years we have been selling property here. There is even a beautiful photo of St Gilles Croix de Vie, on the front cover. This is where we live and is surely one of the loveliest towns on the Atlantic coast. (Incredibly, not mentioned in the Rough Guide to France, so IT'S OUR SECRET!!)

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing...   August 20, 2007

I bought this guide book based on Amazon reviews but was a little disppointed with it. Having used the Rough Guide books in the past for holidays, I expected this book to be as good if not better. Unfortunately, it was rather dull and took far too long to read to find anywhere worth visiting. There were some interesting parts but all in all, the book was not what it was cracked up to be. There were very few photographs which was a shame and we found some things were out of date. If you are thinking about buying this book, I would try another.

4 out of 5 stars top tip for visitors to the Vendee   May 2, 2007

Angela Bird obviously loves the Vendee and one cannot fault her knowledge, but unlike many guide books she 'calls a spade a spade'. If she says something is worth visiting, she is generally accurate and because she does not try to make everything sound like the new location for the hanging gardens of Babylon, it is easy to prioritise one's trips. With a family that has to value it's infrequent time in the region, that is very useful. I have given it 4 stars because no guide book can be as good as being there!
