5 out of 5 stars fantastic for Londoners   May 12, 2008
I have lived in London a few years now, and I love being able to find the really interesting and off the wall things to do in this fab city. I bought this book for a friend, and then spent the next 2 days buried in it myself, and I started to write down ideas to take back to me. After 5 pages of my notes on the book, I decided it would be far simpler to get myself a copy!
it lists everything from places to eat, to museums you'cve probably never heard of, together with lots of free activities and it isn't expecially aimed at tourists which is refreshing. A really different take on London and I'm a big fan.

3 out of 5 stars For Londoners   April 8, 2008

Unashamedly aimed at Londoners this book would be next to useless for a first time tourist to London wanting to do the 'sights' in a weekend.

Other than that my greatest criticism is that it really needs maps showing the location of entries and linking them back to the text, or at very least an index by, say postcode.

It is full of good ideas but many of them require a bit of time to do, you also need a reasonable knowledge of London to know where everything is.

It is in the style of a newspaper article. The random nature of the entries (which they consider part of its charm, I consider laziness) is also frustrating for anyone wanting to find a particular type of activity, although there is an index by category. The main index I found inadequate, as I couldn't find things I knew were in the book in the index.

It's packed full of interesting and fun stuff to do in the capital, for all budgets and interests.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant - the London you don't know   November 28, 2007

I have lived in London for thirty years and I only know a third of the places in this book. Packed full of unexpected suggestions and well researched summaries. Bit heavy on the kind of places that you need gelled hair to feel comfortable in but hey - it's a Time Out book.
It's in my loo, covered in biro marks and every fifth page corner is turned down. (As soon as my parole comes up I'll be right out there!)

This truly is a guide for both tourists and Londonders alike - it shows London from a new, exciting and unconventional perspective. You will find many places and activities you never knew existed as well as familiar spots which you can visit and enjoy as if for the first time. No matter what kind of person you are - arty, adventurous, sporty, hedonistic etc - you will find new ways to indulge yourself. And for those of you who are thinking of places to take your date or your friend from abroad - here you will find lots of new ideas that will make your day out fabulously memorable. This guide definitely turns London into a real treat.
