Customer Reviews:
A county for all seasons December 5, 2005 This book is wonderful on all levels - succinct, eclectic, informative, trivial, indispensible. Packed full of quotations which capture various moments in Derbyshire history as poignantly as photographs, it works as a seasonal almanac, a historical taster of the county of Derbyshire over the last 1000 years, and a genuinely helpful what-to-do and where-to-go guide to every month of the year. It has a good index, a smattering of intellectual humour and a series of quirky illustrations that set it apart from any other 'tourist' book I know. I was given it as a birthday present in June this year, and have since dipped into it every single day. HIGHLY recommended.
