 The best all around guide to Marrakech July 28, 2007

The Hedonist Guide Series stands out above all others for one big reason--they research everything themselves. Having had a glimpse inside the guide book world, you would be surprised at how many guides out there ask people for money to appear in their guides (even when they state they are unbiased guides), or ask for money for better reviews. You would also be surprised at how few of the places that actually end up in the guide book ever actually were visited. Also, many guide books look for freebies from hotels, restaurants, etc--and as you expect, get them...Hedonist Guides doesn't seem to play that game. Paul Sullivan, the author of this particular guide book, went to every single place in it, and often went incognito. As a result, this guide is a true reflection of his views of what is happening in Marrakech, how good or not good all the places are--and it is a refreshing addition to the scene, giving a lot of listings that don't appear in other guides. As a "local" I was impressed by how many new places this guide uncovered. Marrakech is a place that changes a lot, so always look out for the latest edition.
