If you are looking for beautiful photographs of beautiful French women who have a great sense of style, this is the book for you. If, on the other hand, you are more interested in some ideas, some pointers, some insights or some advice about how to nudge your own personal style into a more "Parisian" direction, this book will disappoint you terribly. Much better guide, although dated, to building and accessorizing a wardrobe with French flair is the hard to find but well worth it "French Chic".

This book does not patronise or rehash well-known style tips. What it does is to show the reader how two stylish Parisian women go about building and maintaining their way of dress across a variety of day and evening moments. Their approach to dressing well is broken down to its constituent parts - clothes, ideas, combinations, etc - which makes it easy for the reader to follow and apply. The whole idea is effortless dressing - and once the suggestions in this book are assimilated, dressing for day and evening on all budgets becomes indeed effortless. The key to French fashion is that in all situations it is the woman who wears the clothes, not vice versa. This is the only hard rule this book promotes, allowing the reader not to copy but to adapt the suggestions in this book to her own lifestyle and figure. I strongly recommend this book to any woman interested in a subtle yet very effective and down-to-earth approach to fashion and style.

This is a very unhelpful book. It consists mostly of the two authors posing in a variety of situations, looking pleased with themselves and promoting their shop. It has nothing useful to say about style. Try French Chic by Susan Summers, which is pretty old and a bit whimsical but is much better value for money. My copy has fallen to bits now, though I don't look any more French, if I'm honest.....

This book is very thin on content. Descriptions of how to put a wardrobe together are inadequate and unhelpful. The photography is good and there are lots of nice pictures but not enough text or advice to make the book worth buying. Almost anything by Mary Spillane, Carol Spenser or Leah Feldon is more informative and better value for money.

This book has nothing original to say, very few clothes are featured and the same photgraphs appear throughout. Short on content and style!
