| Customer Reviews:
Could serve as a Textbook for Paris 101. February 6, 2000 I took this book to Paris in the Spring of 1999, it served us beautifully as a guide to many the places in Paris we saw. Besides just seeing & visiting Paris environs, we also (because of our Knopf Guide) learned the historical significance of these locales. Gorgeous full color illustrations, maps of all kinds, fold-outs on all the important stuff. I read this book almost every night we spent in Paris, to map out the next days sight-seeing. Were going to Germany this year, and so far I can't find one of these on Munich, Frankfort, or Cologne. Needless to say I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Beautiful but dated travel guide June 28, 1999 The Paris guide book is a visually stunning travel guide but its themes are dated, evoking a pre-war Paris of writers and painters and strolls along the Champs Elysees, when today Paris is a much more consumer-based society with all the trappings of American cities. We managed to find an affordable hotel with Parisian charm but with little thanks to this book. The maps are little more than cryptic diagrams, making it difficult to find the enticing restaurants the guide lists. Much of the information needs to be updated to serve as a true guide book. Knopf Guide Paris, like the other books in this series, are richly illustrated and give you interesting historic insights into the city but will only disappoint you if you rely on them to circumnvaigate the city.
A beautiful book for armchair travelers or air travelers January 9, 1999 Knopf guides are beautiful books with graphically interesting formats. They provide lots of background and historic information. Excellent for dreaming about trips and travels, real or imagined.
