3 out of 5 stars Plenty of repetition, but not much fun - or much use   June 16, 2008

OK, I admit I may not be going about it the right way, and perhaps I'm impatient.

BUT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO SOMEBODY!

And there's the rub. Hours and hours of practice mean I can recognise the phrase 'China is in Asia and coloured red on the map'. And when presented with the number 2011, I identify with 'the last two digits are 1'.

This set will help me describe the world around me, but I want to interact with it. The process actually ends up quite tedious - it's described as immersion but the level of interaction is very low.

(Also the software only works if you keep the CD in the drive at all times, which is a nuisance if like me your laptop uses an external drive.)

I'd heard a lot about Rosetta Stone, and am disappointed. It gets 3 stars because it does help me learn some words, though not the ones I want.

As a final point, I bought the software direct from Rosetta Stone rather than via Amazon because they offer a money-back guarantee (am I allowed to write that here?) if you're not satisfied in the first six months.
