5 out of 5 stars Pop Idols sent in time machine back to 1981   August 13, 2004

I wondered if it was only me who thought this sounded like Computer World-era-Kraftwerk, but an on-line soul I know thought it was very Pocket Calculator. Here those crazy girls have been sent back to 1981 Dussledorf and come back with a suitably futurist sound with some empty lyrics that sound more meaningful when you think about German men in red shirts pretending to be robots. Almost the greatest single of 2004, but Kelis' Milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, y'know...

5 out of 5 stars Very impressive!   August 3, 2004

I was so surprised by this single, as I never would've imagined I'd be a fan of girls aloud! Yet this single has convinced me they mean business.
The first time I heard it I was instantly drawn in by it. It is infectiously catchy with a real underlying dance beat. Its synthesised pop at it's finest. The lyrics may leave a little to be desired, but hey, take busted. Their lyrics leave a LOT to be desired but they're still much loved!
A wicked track, worthy of my 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars "The Show" goes on!   June 21, 2004

One of the most satisfying aspects of the pop scene in 2003 was Girls Aloud well and truly proving their killjoy critics wrong by scoring hit after hit.
Now they return after a lengthy absence spent largely working on their new album, from which "The Show" is the first release. It is a fast-paced, electric-driven rollercoaster of a pop song with a succession of 'hooks' one after the other. As always, the vocals are superb from all five girls (Nadine in particular).
The video is wonderfully light-hearted and you just can't help liking the group.
Anyone who is already a fan after their hits last year will be delighted by this and will be eagerly awaiting the imminent album release. For anyone else with the even the slightest feeling for quality pop I would wholeheartedly recommend this as a great introduction to arguably the brightest pop sound around.
