1 out of 5 stars Just breaks   August 27, 2008
I purchased 2 for myself and my wife, both started off really well, the online stuff was simple and it all worked.

Then about a year after getting it the sensor packs up on mine, a week later the same with my wifes. You could not just replace the sensor either and buying another, knowing it is going to die in a 12 month is not an option.

A really good idea carried out very badly.

AVOID.

I love my nike + attachment for my ipod and use it all the time. It really helps motivate me and I enjoy the challenges and goals you can set up on the website. I've used it on the treadmill and once calibrated it seems very accurate. I would definitely recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars another way for nike and ipod to make money   June 10, 2008

I am rather unhappy to write this review as i was once a huge fan of this little machine. However, after about 1 year of having it, the truth of it starts to come out.

Im not a very mad runner - only running about 2 maybe 3 times a week. This machine at first was wonderful as i could find out how far and how fast i was going etc.

Started noticing some problems when it started changing itself between miles and km. Then it started not responding when i first connected it before a run.

Then last week, after not using for about a fortnight, i went to put it on and the machine said that there was no sensor present. I did the run anyway hoping it would pick it up but nothing.

Now it wont even register when i attach the chip!

Ive been googling about to find out if there is anything i can do and i have come across thousands of messages from other people saying that they have exactly the same thing.

It seems that the sensor has a small battery in it, and this runs out, low and behold!, right after the 1 year warranty is up! (some people were reporting that they were having these problems after about a week! so it looks like i was lucky to get a year out of it!) This battery is not made to be replaced and so you then have to go and buy another one.

I would seriously think about looking about and seeing if there is anything else on the market - or wait and see if a better version comes about, as i think this is a waste of money now, and pretty crap for the environment aswell!

I wanted to pick up running again after 6 months of no exercise. I'd lost motivation after a pair of running shoes started hurting my feet. The sports kit was an impulse buy motivation booster.
Before trying it I was very suspicious of its accuracy. Calibrated it (400m walk down the street, 400m jog back) and went on 2 runs (of fast walks when it became too difficult) over a couple of days. Syncing it with the nike website enabled the display of graphs showing my runs and how I was losing pace steadily over the distance. What really impressed was the ability to draw my route on a google map in the nike website and link it to my runs. The distance came out at 3.25 km and the sport kit had calculated my runs to be around 3.29 km which is alot more accurate than I was expecting.
I have now run every other day for a month using the sports kit and have every intention of keeping it up. I will probably re calibrate it in a few weeks as my run style has improved (less like a jelly) and the recorded distance has slowly drifted out by a further 0.1 km.
I have no idea how usefull this is to someone who considers themselves a serious runner. Me, I can't wait to see the graphs, times, and average pace steadily improve. A fantastic motivation boost, just what I wanted.

I bought the Nike+ kit for the iPod Nano just after Christmas as part of my post Christmas usual fitness drive. I have never been into running, having tried to get into it a number of times before. I didn't want to buy the Nike + trainers so I bought one of the plastic holders that you can attach to your trainers. The Nike+ kit however is a truly fantastic product, it gives you a motivation that I was not expecting. It works very well and when hooked up to the Nike+ website, it can allow you to set goals and track progress. This is brilliant, and it provides such a sense of satisfaction as you achieve your goals and see your average time improving. I could not recommend this enough whether you are a seasoned runner, or a novice looking to get into shape, this is the right piece of kit for you!
