4 out of 5 stars A reliable guide, good coverage of Brussels.   January 27, 2002

I live in Brussels, and I use this book regularly when visitors come to stay, when planning trips with my family, and to check out sites and areas which I haven't explored already. It is infinitely better than the Insight Guide, for instance. I annotate the RG to Brussels descriptions with details of children's playgrounds, for instance, and add stars to help me remember which of the many brilliant places to visit in Brussels are the most brilliant of all. Its a handy-size guidebook too, easy to put in your pocket and read in a bar without looking too much like a tourist. It has its snooty side, of course, all the Rough Guides do, but regular readers of their books will know how to interpret their disapproval of places which sound actually quite good. But, if you plan to explore areas of Belgium outside Brussels, get an supplementary guidebook: the Brussels RG is really good only for Brussels, the day-trips section is tiny, and highly limited.
