This CD is brilliant and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in learning Spanish. If you couple it with a more formal learning of the language then you have everything you need. Michel's approach is fantastic and his charisma makes listening to this CD a pleasure: certain phrases (the 'PREEEEEE-sent tense') will stick in your mind and make sure you don't forget the simple rules.
Michele Thomas: What a genius!! June 4, 2007 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This guy was an absolute genius!! By the end of the course - I was addicted to him. His voice is with you forever. It really feels like your in the room with him, the intelligent, sorta sexy sounding young American girl and the absolute plank with the dopey voice and continuous misunderstanding of everything!!! I've listened to each disc several times (about three) before moving to the next, and by the end of the 8th, I had learned so much. I'm thinking in Spanish all the time now!!!
I picked up the highly recommended follow on Advance course and the language builder. Sadly the great man died in 2005, but more follow on courses are available, featuring Dr Rose Lee Hayden, one of his best lecturers (from his unique school). I will pick these up when possible.
I cannot recommend this enough!!! Or as Michele would say:
No Me Puedo recomendar este bastante! bastANte ANte ... you push down!!!!
CLASSIC!

Excellent May 8, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This really works, I don't know how it works, but it does. Listening to two students apparently learning and making mistakes at the same time you are saying phrases really boosts your confidence too. I found myself waking up at night with the Spanish phrases really stuck in my mind. Michael Thomas may look on the cover like a Tangoed Benny Hill but he really, really knows how to make Spanish appear simple to learn and implant key phrases into your mind, without any reading or writing. This is probably best used pre-holiday rather than an academic aide, and over the ironing which is how I did it!
A Useful Element April 21, 2007 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
No single language course is enough on its own. This is an excellent element but it is best supported by some solid grammar like 501 Spanish Verbs by Christopher Kendris. It can also be very useful to struggle with a dictionary, like the Concise Oxford Spanish Dictionary, and a Spanish newspaper, for instance El Pais, which you can reach online. It is not necessary to use this course only the way Thomas recommends, you can also leave it running in the background while you get on with something else. I find Thomas' English accent a bit irritating but it is a small price to pay for a very useful aid.
