2 out of 5 stars Does not live up to expectations   August 2, 1999
1 out of 8 found this review helpful

Though publisised as one of the greatest books ever written it did not live up to my expectations! I had difficulty forcing myself to stay awake and so continue reading and I certainly could not read more than one chapter at a time. It did become slightly easier after I had watched to film as it meant that I could persuade myself to carry on reading until I got to the next slightly interesting part. This however was not always enough. I say stick to the film! It took me a long time to finish the book. In short I did not find myself unable to put the book down, but unable to pick it up!

5 out of 5 stars A great introduction to Dickens   June 26, 1999
Despite numerous TV adaptations nothing beats actually reading this. One of Mr Dickens' last novels and one of his best. Engaging and gripping yet also Humorous this is an ideal introduction to the work of arguably the most talented novelist of his generation.
