5 out of 5 stars 5 stars for a star   September 28, 2007

I do have lots cookery books but have to say this is the best one I have bought, I love Jamies laid back approach, the growing tips and his general chit chat which I can almost hear him saying, having watched the prog on tv. The recipes are brill and so tempting, I cook far more than I used to. Excellent buy - love reading it.

4 out of 5 stars GROW IT, EAT IT   September 21, 2007

This book encourages the eating of healthful foods. In this day and age where so many are plainly pigs devouring everything in sight including the napkins and tablecloth, isn't this a positive thing? I applaud Oliver the cook-gardener-author. That's the good news.

The bad news is the book is almost laughable in the way it presents the case for gardening. And it's a stereotypical cookbook, too, laying out the receipes in such a forced, jovial way! It reminded me of Martha Bolton's splendid "Maybe Life's Just Not That Into You" a hilarious send up of this type of cooking book.

I think "Jamie At Home" is a step in the right direction toward healthy eating. A small step. But, still a step.

4 out of 5 stars I prefer to review the Book   September 21, 2007

I think many of the reviewers are missing the point. It does not really matter if you think he has not become a gardener overnight, the idea of the book is to encourage people to take more care of what they eat, and to grow you own is a great way of doing that. The food he covers is food that makes you happy and that is a very good thing.
And let's stick to book reviews, not people or TV show reviews which is rather pointless.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it   September 13, 2007

Fab recipes and with a bit of vegetable gardening chucked in for good measure it's the perfect book for budding gardeners and cooks everywhere. It's an amazing way of encouraging people to try and do a bit of home grown and Jamie's constant enthusiasm comes through on every page. It's a great kitchen garden book, a great cook book and even a great coffee table book.
