5 out of 5 stars Fresh, riveting - wildly entertaining.   November 30, 2008
Okay, yes, it's a gushy YA romance. And yes, it treads yet again over the already-muddied territory of bloodsucking-monster-as-misunderstood-tortured-sex-symbol (how's that for hyphenation?!) But despite that, and being exactly as silly as I feared, this is also the most compelling novel I've read in a long, long time. Why, I'm not really sure. It might be as simple as the skill with which Meyer drags out the 'Will he sleep with her, suck her dry, or both?' dilemma upon which the sexy vampire genre is founded. Or it might not. Either way, I'm tapping my fingers waiting for amazon to deliver the sequel...

5 out of 5 stars Twilight Saga isn't just for teenagers - they are for life......   November 29, 2008

A friend of mine lent me the Twilight saga books and I was like "it's a teenage book, what would I want with these - I'm 37 for gawd's sake!" Well, I thought well at least it will be something to read to knock me to sleep. How little did I know. I have just fallen in love with these books and can't wait to cuddle up in bed and get my fix.

So, if you are above the teenage demographic that these books are designed for, don't discount them, they are an amazing read and I'm gutted I'm nearly at the end of Breaking Dawn. I would stick my neck out and say these have got to be my most favourite books and I can't wait for the film to come out in the UK.

Is it so wrong for a 37 year old to have a crush on a fictional 17 year old vampire? If so, guilty as charged.

Read and Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars A critical review from a fan   November 29, 2008
I got given this book for my 21st birthday from my best friend. My first through was I don't like vampire books I thought she knew me better than this. On returning to University I had nothing to do, but I had the books and decided I might as well give them a try. As soon as I started to read the first book I was hooked and over 4 days I read the entire series.

The book is pure unadulterated fluffy romance, brilliant.

It follows the story of 17 year old Bella as she starts a new life in a new city where she meets the Cullen's and particularly the delectable Edward. The book follows a Romeo and Juliet meets Pride and Prejudice theme for a modern audience. While Edward is immediately drawn to Bella's blood (described by him in the book as being 'exactly his brand of heroin') but comes to fall in love with her, and she with him. This is the majority of the book as she tries to work out what he is and then as they come to get to know each other. The best parts of this first stage of the books for me is the meadow scene and in Edwards room.

However, everything goes wrong when a coven turn up unexpectedly where Bella is watching the Cullen's play baseball. It becomes a race to keep Bella ahead of James as Edward tries to eliminate him, something difficult to do with a tracker.

The book ends on a high note at the Spring Dance to leave the reader with a warm fuzzy feeling of happiness.

I have read numerous reviews on both Amazon UK and US and the reactions appear quite different - the UK is far more positive than the US. These books can be criticised for their lack of 'literary worth' (as one US reviewer puts it) as they believe they have no substance.

I disagree. These books are fun, light and easily accessible. If people realise that they are non-fiction and enjoy it for the imagination (and not get caught up saying 'but they're not like other vampires'). It was originally written only to be enjoyed by the author and her friends, not to be published. There are some flaws in the books, although these only became apparent after numerous reads. But for someone who just wants to enjoy some light-hearted romance with a bit of escapism these books are perfect. Although the vampires are central to the story they are enjoyable for everyone who enjoys chick lit as well.

Twilight is the most beautiful book I have ever read.

It is perfectly written and reaches out and grabs at your heart.

Appreciate it, there was never and never will be a book written like it.
