3 out of 5 stars Nice to look at but doesn't last long   January 4, 2008
We were given this as a christmas present last year. It was brilliant and worked well. The recipe ideas that came with it were tasty and easy to make. However, we only had it for a month because the top half split which then made it unusable. It says it can go in the dishwasher on the top rack, but I wouldn't recommend this.

1 out of 5 stars Won't shut properly   January 1, 2008
I was looking forward to using this gadget and having read poor reviews of the original shaker being prone to cracking I decided the metal topped one would be better. Unfortunately it refuses to close securely thus making the vigorous shaking needed nigh on impossible. I read and re-read the instructions searching for the knack to closing it and kept being stumped by being told to 'match up the arrows on the grip' turns out the original shaker has 'matching' arrows on the bottom half of the device, the metal one doesn't. Clearly the instructions are from the original.
So the thing won't shut securely which means the one hand shaking Mr Oliver displayed on his recent TV show is not going to happen. As a result of this, it leaks. I attempted the lemon oil recipe, simple, olive oil and lemon zest. Most of it ended up all over my hands making holding the thing slippery. A mortar and pestle would have been quicker, easier and less likley to be thrown out of the kitchen window in a citrus rage. If like me you ignored the bad reviews and decided to buy one anyway because it looked cool, then good luck!

1 out of 5 stars Useless   December 18, 2007

I loved the idea of this product and spend alot of time in the kitchen. When I received it yesterday I was monumentally disapointed. U could not shut the unit very well and when I tried it out it came appart in my hand, the hard ceramic ball shot out narrowly missing my housemate. Had this ball hit a window it would have gone straight through. I am returning the 2 I bought as I am too embaressed to give it as a present. I highly recommend you steer clear...

1 out of 5 stars A Sad Redesign   November 23, 2007

The orignal was indeed an excellent five star device, but this one has been redesigned so that the two halves don't lock together properly and tends to come apart when shaken vigorously, unless you hold it clamped in two hands.
