Goodnight Mister Tom Review November 17, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This has been one of my favourite books since I first read it back when I was 9. I am now 22, and still dip into this book whenever I fancy an easy read, rather than some of the more difficult works on my English degree course.
It is a touching story, with memorable characters, whch never fails to make me laugh, and almost cry at some parts of the book.
This is one of the few books I can read in one sitting, and still return to - everytime I read it I find something new.
Overall, this is one of my favourite books and would recommend it to children, and adults alike.
Luxury to Spitefulness. September 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is my all time favourite book, and i have read a lot of books! To start with it seems a bit plain and ordinary. Nothing much seems to happen. However, after a couple of chapters, the book suddenly changes tempo and everything starts to happen. Willie has to go to school, but is upset because he has a disadvantage against his friends. Then he is summoned back to London by his spiteful mother, who treats him badly. Tom starts to get worried about Willie, and sets out to find him. This book is great at keeping you gripped, it keeps changing and new people join the book, others leave. There are many new twists to it aswell. N.B Also worth watching the film after reading the book, it brings it to life even more, if thats possible!!
Goodnight Mr Tom review January 8, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As a twelve year old I can highly recommend this book to another reader my age. The author really makes you feel for the characters. It is an emotional story that has you gripping to every page. It is suitable for both boys and girls. The story is about the relationships in William Beech's life. How it develops with Mr Tom and how it is created between his new friends in the country. But when he receives a letter from his mother, William's new fantasy world created by Mr Tom was all about to change. A classic story with a twist.

At school, in year 8, we were told to read Goodnight Mister Tom. I wouldn't normally read this type of book; I would usually read books with more action in them. Even though it isn't the type of book I'd normally read, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a very moving book which gives an insight into life in the war. Throughout the book, the author gradually builds up a relationship between Willie and Mister Tom that is very moving to read about. Willie was an evacuee in the II World War. He was a sad, deprived child whilst living with his mother. But that all starts to change as he flourishes under the care of Mister Tom. This book is an emotional read, full of highs and lows, but is worth it right to the end.

I was recomended this book from my school teacher and i am very gratefull! Good Night Mister Tom seems like a boring old World War 2 book about how evacuees coped with their new homes, but you get a lot more than what you expect. You get a great story about a young boy called Willie (William) (Will) Beech who goes to a small village called little Weirwold. While he is in Weirwold he goes on many mini adventures and quite a few big adventures of which add to the long and exiting plot. The blur tells you about how young Willie gets sent back to London, so that you know there is an rather grim bit coming up and you just don't want Willies adventures in little Weirwold to end!
I strongly advise anyone of any age to read this book (Even if it does look boring).
