This is a great read and gives you another insight to the way we work that you may not have considered before.
Blink and you have missed it. December 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The good thing about the book is that it is an interesting read. However, I am not sure it is meant to give the idea that everything written in it is a fact. The author does supply a lot of facts to the extent that the quotes from studies done in the past and then has an appendix with all the details later on. However, studies are what they are - they are statistical. Not everyone behaves like that. A statistically significant set of people do. That is something which the average user might miss. Apart from this, the book is little else. It meanders from one interesting study (I will not deny that) to another. However, it is like reading like a wiki-encyclopedia of strange facts.
Thinking without thinking, but not without experience... December 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Although I enjoyed the many examples that Gladwell used to demonstrate the apparently amazing art of just 'knowing' something, perhaps I was expecting a little more from this book. It felt as if once he had concluded that the only effective way you can 'think without thinking' is to have a lot of experience (and therefore a measure of expertise in your field), there wasn't a huge amount more he could say. And he came to this conclusion in the first few chapters...
Nevertheless, it was an entertaining book to read on a flight, and particularly his descriptions of autism and facial movements were fascinating.
Good book for traveling November 13, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this book, along with the author's "Tipping Point" while traveling around Europe. Great stuff for quick thirty minute reads where you have to put the book down, though I did find "Point" and this book to have many similarities.
Easy to read, as many have pointed out, "Blink" is great food for thought. Nothing is delved into in great, great detail, but it makes you think and I suppose that's what a book is meant to do.
Amusing and insightful, this book, along with "A Short History of the World" makes for a great Christmas stocking stuffer.
A Unique Perspective! November 4, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was riveted from start to finish. Gladwell reveals how we can become superior decision makers, in our homes, our workplaces, and in our daily lives. It's remarkable to realize that this book represents the life work of many brilliant researchers, most of whom we would never know except for this book. Gladwell has taken decades and volumes of highly technical research and made these concepts accessible to the average reader and anyone can see almost instantly how it applies to everyday situations we all encounter. I also highly recommend Understanding: Train of Thought.
