5 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book   August 23, 2006

A manual for the 21st century. As the author says "we are a species that has lost its way" and are completely trapped in the rat race of our thoughts, judgements and constant analysis of events, rather than directly experiencing life. Every chapter guides and encourages you towards a return to an awareness of the miraculous life within you, and gives practical pointers on how to access and maintain this awareness. I wholeheartedly reccommend this book, it will lead you to joy.

2 out of 5 stars Sounds great, but..   July 15, 2006

There's a lot of common sense in this book and others of the author that I've now looked at. Don't worry overly about the past or the future. Make the most of where you are now, be aware of it (i.e. smell the roses). Question your knee-jerk responses to common situations and don't let other people push your buttons. There's a lot of author-specific jargon and talk of human evolution. As I said, a lot of common sense so now I've sketched it out there's no need for you to read the book. In doing so you will avoid beating yourself up about your ego, the 'real you' or any other of the author's concepts. That all gets to be a real headtrip (that's the polite word).
Of course, a number of other people will post about how this book have enriched their lives for ever. Until the next book comes out, that is.

5 out of 5 stars Tolle speaks with wisdom and clarity...   May 30, 2006

I was really gripped by this book, and could'nt put it down once I'd started reading. I found it's content to be highly relevant and it's style concise and easy to read. Tolle speaks with wisdom and clarity. It has had a major impact on me and my whole perspective on life, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to find out more about the bigger picture of our existence.

1 out of 5 stars one of the worst.   May 17, 2006

It is sad that so many reviewers miss the essence of this book. the common theme they have is that they will read it again and again. In others they just dont get it.Of course not. Read this book two hundred times and you will not get. What you get is the hope promised in the book.
However a deep read of the book by someone who has read widely and understand spiritualy will show that the book is cleverly put together the way it promises more. However the conclusion reveals the major problem with Tolles new Earth. He believes in reincarnation a Hindu philosophy as yet unproven yet Tolles throws this in as the answer !Say no more.

5 out of 5 stars Intriguing and provocative   May 5, 2006

My ego has real problems with this book! It doesn't want to really believe that the 'normal' way of living is, in fact, a hollow sham, based on illusion. But it has had to admit that there is a ring of truth about this book which raises it above the normal, self-help pap that lines bookstore shelves.
I doubt whether I shall ever be able to implement the way of being that Tolle exhorts. However, even to allow a small awareness of something beyond the usual rat-race, pushing and shoving, grabbing and consuming can only be a good and helpful thing. I loved reading this book - and I'm sure that it is one that I will read again and again. Thoroughly recommended.
