 Like the man himself - excellently funny in small doses January 31, 2008
Jeremy Clarkson receives an awful lot of bad press for being opinionated and crass, but like any schoolboy mentality, the more attention you lavish, the more they crave it. So his rants and raves on the health and safety geeks in their jumpers and cravats are to be expected really, and in an age where many think that common sense has been outlawed, Clarkson's articles in the Sunday Times come as welcome relief.
This book is a collection of articles from several years ago, so if you are an avid reader of his columns, then you might be wasting your time. On the other hand you might find the content a bit dated. Having said that if you like a bit of recent history, don't mind taking your mind back a few years, then this will bring a smile to your face. The subject matter is varied and the opinions are always extreme, but the articles are always short and sweet, but most importantly, they are funny. In his middle-aged way, he pretends to not understand the world to get a laugh, but when there's a subject he cares about, he really goes for it, and you come away thinking "y'know, he's got a point there."
And then you curse yourself for agreeing with him.

Just regurgitaed newspaper articles, some of the stuff in there is quite funny but I think that some of his opinions are just made up on the spot and he is trying a little to hard to be controversial and obnoxious, also some of it seems a bit boastful especially about his travel and hotel accomodation, he seems to take great pleasure in letting us know how much money he has and can spend.

I'm not a big fan of his on the top gear, but someone brought this book for me as a present, so I though I'd give it a try. I have never heard someone moan so much about being wealthy and having to travel to almost every destination in the world. It gets annoying after a while

A remarkably interesting, insightful, and overall hilarious set of articles orginally published in the Sunday Times from a man who one might easily presume has no interest in anything except cars. It would be wrong to assume this about Clarkson. In 'The World According To...' a vast variety of topics are covered from the interesting and emotional; particularly Clarkson's thoughts on the retirement of Concorde, to the side splittingly funny; such as Clarkson explaining what happened between himself and Piers Morgan abord the last flight on Concorde.

Very funny, even the females in the family enjoyed this one.
So much so, I have high hopes of getting the rest of his 'works' for Christmas.(Hint! - see my wish-list)
He even manages to slip in the odd pearl of wisdom. O.K. not earth shattering stuff, but mostly light-hearted, certainly opinionated and most of all just escapist fun. Not at all car based either, rambles around many and varied topics (unlike that machine one he did, bit tedious).
