The book "About a Boy" is about problems of a teenager.
In several passages the main Character, Marcus, gets into contact with suicide thoughts. The whole book is about searching for a way of to get out and the reason of being born to die.
I think it's very monotonous, but without losing the "red line" of a complete story. I think there are much better stories, so i wouldn't recommend it.

I absolutely love this book - it is very funny and the idea behind the story is a good one. Strange boy develops a friendship with uber-trendy selfish singleton, all the characters are likeable, even selfish Will. Very well written with lots of laugh out loud moments throughout. You must see the film also, I never tire of it and definitely rate it in my top 5 favourite films.

You must read this book, especially if you like Hornby. It is really such a simple story, but has remained one of my favorite books (and I read a lot)! I first read it in my early twenties and have read it a few times since. Although it would seem that this book would have far more appeal for a male audience (as the main characters are both male), I honestly couldn't put it down. The contrast between the very adult and awkward young Marcus and the very immature, self-involved Will is fantastic. The relationship between the two and what they bring to each other's lives is incredibly heart-warming (yet not in a cheesy way). It is also full of great adult humour!! An absolute must read, and the film is quite good too (with an amazing soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy).

Hope the title didn't sound too harsh; i quite enjoyed About a Boy even though it's not the sort of thing i would normally read. However, i think the book is a little tedious and definately a 'read only once' thing. Watch the film instead, it's much funnier, especially the bit about the 'yeti costume'!

About a boy of nick hornby is a very funny novel that plays with people's fears and their typical clishes.The humorous author tells a story about an excludet child called Marcus (=Beerly) and an adult called Will. Marcus seems to be very far in his personal development , but Will is in contrast to Marcus very child like .During the story these two characters meet and establish a special friendship. Finally they change their positions , that means that Will grew up and Marcus enjoys his life more as a child .
