5 out of 5 stars I'd agree... a really good card.   August 9, 2008

I bought this card largely based upon Mr Stewkesbury's glowing testimonial below, and I'd agree with him wholeheartedly - it is a fast, very robust and reliable card, giving 1600 images on my 8mp pocket camera in highest resolution mode. The supplied USB adaptor is indeed useful, but, unlike Mr Stewesbury's Sony laptop, this card DOES read/write in my bottom-of-the-range Sony Vaio's SD card slot (even though it isn't marked as HC compatible). As a class 4 card, the read/write speed is excellent - more than adequate for most 'point and shoot' cameras, and unless you're into seriously hi-resolution professional photography, I'd doubt you'd need the extra speed of the class 6 SanDisk Extreme III.

5 out of 5 stars Worth buying for the USB adapter alone   June 2, 2008

Please Note the comment appended to this review and the more recent reviews added - it seems that this card is no longer supplied with a USB card reader.

*********************************************************************

We've built up a fair collection of SD and micro SD cards in our home now. These range from original 16MB SD cards which would have come with cameras years ago through 512MB, 1GB and this 4GB in full SD size, and 2 & 4GB cards in micro size for modern phones.

The cards need to exchange data (pictures, music, documents, etc) with a range of PCs and laptops.

We typically used a couple of external USB plug-in multi-slot card readers to adapt the cards for reading via USB slots.

As the SD and micro-SD cards have grown to greater and greater storage capacities, and in particular the advent of SDHC (High Capacity) we've found the reliability of using those external readers has become more flakey.

We were finding that if we checked a micro card from a phone using the old external adaptors we were prone to getting results like "format not Known", "format is raw", "please insert a card/device" even though we already had. Basically, those external adapters, which we had relied upon for many years, were struggling with high capacity SDHC cards.

I even used a brand new good spec Sony laptop the other day and found it could not read this 4GB SDHC card when plugged directly into the built-in SD slot in the side of the laptop.

The SanDisk USB to SD adapter shipped with this card solves all those problems. As you would expect from the manufacturer of almost all the cards we are using, it never misses a beat, always reads the data quickly and correctly, and readily allows you to re-format your card into a different format (NTFS, FAT32 etc) if you wish.

For instance, that Sony laptop could not read the card in its SD slot, but had no problem at all with reading it once it was plugged into a USB socket with this adapter.

It works just as well with a full-size SD card or with a micro-SD adapted to full-size.

The adapter is very small and easy to carry in your camera case or laptop bag.

The 4GB card is excellent too - thousands of photos!!

I've got an Extreme III 1GB SD card from SanDisk as well, and would not say that I notice any real difference in performance (between this II and that III). Both are good cards. SanDisk cards seem to be sturdier and better made than some cheaper competitors.

So, with so many SD cards to choose from, I just thought I'd point out the USB adapter shipped with this one as a very worthwhile differentiator when you are deciding which to buy.

5 out of 5 stars Works well   April 18, 2008

I have used this with my nikon D60 and it works fine. It will store up to around 1000 images from the camera (highest quality and resolutiuon JPEGs). Not sure that I need the speed, but the price is cheap enough just to use the card once and keep it as 'exposed' digital film.
